Subject: Moving to G4 1.25 & Radeon 9200 -- how big a performance boost?

tedbragg ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 8:44 AM · edited Wed, 29 January 2025 at 5:17 AM

Currently on a G4 450 with a R7000. D|S is unusable. Poser is barely functional as well. If this new rig proves to be faster, I intend to ditch Poser altogether. How big a jump going from the G4 450/Radeon 7k to a new G4 1.25/R9200 (Mini)?? How fluid are the Mil3.0 figures in D|S? jerky? smooth? I never load more than one at a time to use...

Poser does not use the graphics card at all. Speed improvement from a 450 to 1.2 processor should be significant. I went from P3 450 to Athelon 2800+ and Poser is now really fast and I can use multiple figures with no problems. Daz studio uses opengl rendering so the graphics card is relevant. There are a lot of things you can do in Poser (5) that Daz studio does not do.

Yes, you would be unwise to ditch poser yet. Remember if you have pro pack or poser 5 then you can make your own figures with them, you can`t do that with daz studio and it looks like that wont be changed in the near future. I still prefer pro pack and poser 5 but I use daz studio too, sometimes.

tedbragg i went from a Athlon 1800xp, 512mb ram with a 64 mb graphics card to a Athlon 3000xp, 512mb ram with a Radeon 9600(128mb ram) graphics card. I soon noticed the speed difference in usin D|S compared to my old computer setup. I don't use D|S for much other than converting Poser/DAZ files over so i can use them in bryce.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
