THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Hmmm, Poser export/import info

Well, I just bought V3 a new Scifi outfit, put it on her (looks great), she's posed and armed ready to go into a Bryce scene.......so now what?

If I export as an obj. I'd have to texture each individual little freakin' part of her suit, and, her face and hair...is there some export function to get it all and just load it in? Is DAZ Studio supposed to be able to do this, so I load a fully textured V3 into Bryce?.....

Any insights, tips, or info on this would be appreciated....

Ah, welcome to the age old Poser problems. No, DAZ Studio won't do that (as of yet.), that's why DAZ made that Turbo plugin for Bryce 5, which will do what yer looking for. But, otherwise, yes you have to select the various parts and basically re-texture them. You can use the "Grouper" free utility which helps this Poser problem. I don't have my pc up and running so I don't have all my screenshots, but I am sure you're about to get a LOT of info....;o) AS

*Make sure to use deafult Poser settings when exporting, meaning that one window that pops up and lets you check boxes...don't check any more than what is checked. This will make it so you the amount of objects that V3 and her outfit are made out of are as a least amount as possible, so you have to mess with less objects in Bryce. Lol, hope that makes any sense.... AS

You know,.........I've never had any problems with Bryce reading the textures from Poser(I'm using ProPack),.......although I generally want to adjust the texture levels (abmience, bump and so on) and I generally check the box that says "use body part names" or something like that. I've never understood why so many people have so many problems with importing textured P figures into Bryce. Daz Studio has an annoying habit of putting the bumpmaps full out at 100% for me but that's all. I always export the object to the same folder as the textures and everything loads fine. I suppose I should consider myself lucky !

Once you've located the first mat for a particular piece, it defaults back to that folder, then you manually change folders on the next piece. I like to adjust every individual tidbit. Yeah it takes time. but worth it in the finale.

I guess I don't have the patience or time.......I think I'm going to be re-texturing the suit to something else, so she has a different look...

Another quick note: sometimes if you take a few minutes selecting groups (head/body/clothing/hair) and assign family colors to the wireframes it makes it easier to load the mats, although there is still tweaking the mats in Mat/edit.

Aye, I'm always re-texturing, layering in procedurals (DTE) mats with any, and I mean ANY texture map. The more layers you use, the more realism you'll achieve. I've never tried Turbo, does anyone know if it will allow you to set up your Bryce mats beforehand? I always change a few key attributes, such as Diffusion and Ambience, they are usually at 100 when I import from Poser 5...

I tend to agree with ICM and LSD... I got that Turbo plugin and used it once. Just didn't like the results. I see much better results when I take the extra time and tweak the textures and attribute values as LSD mentioned. And Like ICM said... in the end it is definitely worth takin' that extra time.

Well, I thought I might as well go ahead and import all the textures, btw I did take her into D|S and re-exported her from there, cause for some reason straight out of Poser Bryce balked and I got error messages....3 hours later all done but her eyes and I did change some things. I may do a metal/leather texture pack for the suit, it's on my list...=)

Now to bed, catch you in the pm....

Good work on these textures! See, it's not so tedious, once you get over the whole 3 HOURS part! (grins) I think it looks great.

RodsArt ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 7:48 AM

Agreed, much better look.

oh, the old eye problem- texture the outermost layer of the eye with the clearest glass mat, and that should fix it..if not, I use the Lego colors mats (of all things) for quicky eye textures, though Poser has eye textures that look a lot better. At least Daz Studio is free..;)

Actually, with this particular model and pose, the white eyes look kinda cool.

The eyes I thought had an outer layer, but all that shows is the 'eyeswhite', 'cornea' and 'iris'...maybe I'll give her cyborg eyes, the ones with the cross hairs....now what series/movie had cyborgs with those types of eyes? Anybody?

ya got me, most of the ones I've done have worked that way (Maya Doll, for whatever reason, seems to have problems), but drawing a blank on the cyborg ones..too much MST 3k..;)

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 8:27 PM

I know all of the other DAZ characters (Steph, Mikey, Vicky 2) have an outer eye layer which is solid, and should be set to water or glass refraction levels. Not sure why your V3 doesn't have this feature? (I don't have V3 yet...)

xenic101 ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 11:09 PM

Ctrl+click on the 'whites' part of her eye, the lowest numbered part of each eye is the outer layer. Usually Figure_1_17 and 21 or so when I do it.

Zhann ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 12:04 AM

Thanks I'll try, but there was only one 'eyeswhite' that I could find.....

Meant to do this earlier, but I forgot. Here's a color coded wireframe of V3's eyes. I exported useing the default settings and imported straight into bryce. If you use grouper or turbo or different export options, I suppose it's possible that the cornea didn't get exported.

Haven't had time, but I'll zoom in real close to have a look...
