Subject: Posing a person holding a rifle

Okay, I know this is a newbie type question and I've been posing for 2 years, but this is the part where I get really stuck all the time. using Mock's gun for example which is a figure with a few props attached. If I don't conform the gun to the person then it's easy to pose the gun in the persons hand using the dials to move the gun around, but then if I move the person's arms the gun moves. If I do conform the gun to the person, then the gun becomes almost impossible to pose because the dials don't work the same. Love esther

Is there a "hip" or similar part to the gun? I can usually move conformed items a bit if I have the hip selected.

This is not an area where Poser makes things easy, due to its default ignorance of allowable movements in actual humans. Maybe Mock has some tips or pose files available. Basically it's gonna take alot of work, but I would just parent the gun to the right hand.

esther, Here's a trick that may work for you: Select you figure then select it's body. Load a ball prop, size doesn't matter. Load the gun figure, do not conform. Position the ball to emcompass the trigger. Use the hiearchy window and parent the gun's body to the ball. Use the ball to move the gun into the rough positon, you can still use the gun's trans and rotation dials for fine tuning. When you have the pose the way you want, parent the ball to either hand. Note: the gun will move with the figure. Turn off the ball's cast shadow and make it invisable. By using this method you can scale the gun and it's props if need be. Here is a rough idea of what it looks like.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

thanks. While i was waiting for your answers I exported the figure with all the prop bits attached as an obj and reimported it then parented it to the right hand. but I like nickedshield's idea so I'm going to try that later. Love esther

after you have the gun and arms roughly posed,

turn on IK for the right and left hand

using your hand cameras

use the x y and z trans dials to precisely move the hands into place.

Okay, will do. BTW Jerr - you're the one that made the catsuit jeans shorts for V3 I think. They are one of my favourite clothing items. I extended the texture using photoshop to turn them into jeans, then added an ankle magnet to make a morph to make the legs look a little wider. I use them in lots of my renders. You should make a proper jeans like that and sell it. And of course I also use the shorts a lot too. They're my favourite shorts! Love esther

Well I'm not good with texturing etc. I'm sure you could make a similar one but better that you could sell in the MP. I couldn't get the seams to go down the sides of the legs properly. Love esther
