Subject: Newbie Question - How to directly move body parts?

gdavis3d ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2005 at 8:06 AM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 4:09 AM

Here's a newbie question for everyone. I have just downloaded, installed and started using DAZ|Studio. I am having a hard time figuring out how to directly move a body part (like a head or arm) on the screen without using the parameter dials. The manual says I can click on the bone and then one of the colored axes that appear on the body part in the main window to move it. When I try, the part is deselected. How do I do this? Do I have to use just the parameter dials? Is this a bug? If so, will it be enabled in later versions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this: First make sure the rotate tool is selected (alt-shift-r) then click on a bodypart. A transparent sphere with different colored lines or axes should appear around the selected bodypart. Click and hold the mousebutton down on one of the lines (it should turn yellow) and drag the mouse. You'll need to click pretty much exactly on the line otherwise it will become deselected.

Thanks for replying. No go. I have tried clicking exactly on the line and hold the mouse button down. The part is deselected. What am I doing wrong?

Hmm, that's weird... I really have no idea why it would be doing that. You'd probably get better help by asking over at the DS forum at DAZ3d though. Also I see they have relesed a new version (0.9.17.1) You could see if installing that makes any difference.

Hmm...I'm sorta new at this program also, but I know how to morph faces and import stuff. Try selecting the rotate tool, as that is the only way you can really "move" any animal or human in Studio. (Unless you select the move tool right after the figure is loaded.) Try possibly reinstalling the program if worst comes to worst. I can't help you much, but make sure you have the latest version.

There is a known bug with nvidia cards not using the nvidia driver, that shows a similar behaviour.
