Subject: Whats the difference between the Real Skin Shader and HyperREAL

Ascinct ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2005 at 10:21 PM · edited Mon, 30 September 2024 at 10:00 AM

This is probably a silly question, but I need to know!
I recently bought HyperREAL for V3 By Morris and face_off.
Damn did I fall in love with it! (excellent work! the both of you!)

Well, as i was experimenting with it, I added the shader to Sirya for V3 by StefyZZ, It looked great!
Then I applied the shader to M3 (using the "David Hi-res maps"), (thats right M3!), and with a few tweeks to the transmaps (basically just replacing the transmap, with the correct "david" one), that too looked great!

Other than the obvious, that, the HyperREAL skin shaders come with texture maps?
My question is, Whats the difference between the "Real Skin Shader" and "HyperREAL" skin shaders?

Basically what I am wanting to know is, if the render quality the same? do the shaders them selves work the same way? Do they apply the same effects? And what about usage with other light packages?

Sorry about all the questions, but I am so close to buying the "Real Skin Shader". But yet I dont want to buy something that Ive already got. (plus the fact that i shouldnt really be spending any more money... ;p)

Thankyou so much for your time,
Ascinct

P.S - did I forget to mention how brilliant the HyperREAL Product is? (its truly got to be the best product ive bought!)

My understanding is that Hyper is Real Skin plus.

I won't dwell on it. I preordered P6 Speical Edition that comes with Winter Queen.

Ascinct ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2005 at 11:04 PM

ok...sorry I knew P6 was coming out, but i havent read any of the posts, is there a problen and what is Winter Queen?

Winter Queen is shown on the box of Poser 6. www.CuriousLabs.com

I do not have any problem with preorder. Poser 6 have not yet been released and of course it is better than Poser 5.

Ascinct ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2005 at 11:23 PM

Hmmm, If I were to order P6 at the moment, Ill max my credit card out! :( Cant really tell whether Winter Queen is just another judy, from that little box image...Oh well

ascint, others may answer about the difference but the in-depth answer might have to wait a little...Paul (face_off) is "on-hiatus" for a few weeks. He just got married. ::::: Opera :::::

Ascinct ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2005 at 11:32 PM

Ok, thankyou operaguy! I was starting to get scared that my question was going to be over looked! :( My Congratulations go out to Paul (face_off). I hope you have (had) a wonderful honeymoon, and I wish you happyness and all the best, with your lives together and in the future! Ascinct

ascint, it does not answer your question....but did you see my thread of Real Skin Shader examples of the new release of the product compared to the initial release? (Attached Link)

I think the RealSkinShader will work with every texture for every figure (ie V2, MilGirls, M2, Koshini, LaRoo etc.) and the HyperReal only works with V3 based textures (speaking of the map layout).

Morris ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 9:06 AM

I hope I can answer this correctly, Face_off would be much better at the technical side, but since he's getting married, I'll try my best ;-) Real Skin Shader is a one size fit's all kind of script and script only that will add effects to most models. With HyperREAL we were able to include texture specific items, such as alpha maps for spots, specular and sss, lip gloss and tone/brightness adjustments. With the inclusion of alph maps, it sets up a more complex node system that Real skin shader does not. Paul did update Real skin shader with some of the tricks of HyperREAL, but couldn't include the texture specific items since it's script only. Personally I like to use both. RSS on models such as V2, EJ and such. And use HyperREAL on V3 and M3. Hope I helped a little bit ;-) Sincerely, jeni

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 12:05 PM

Jeni, you're exactly right. I would like to add that Real Skin Shader was designed to work on the unimesh figures. You can edit it to work on other figures, but be aware that the names of the materials are case sensitive. So if you add the materials "Skin", "Head", or "Body", the script may not work on the materials "skin", "head" or "body". That is just from my experience though. Jeremy

OK, I have a question, I bought this item, only to realize that it is for poser 5. Is there anyway to adapt it to poser 4? I do own poser 5, but the dang thing scares me! I know , read the manuel, read the manuel. Just a curious question

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 2:18 PM

NO...it's a python script & only PPP & up is Python supported.

RNKarenER ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 2:59 PM

OK, I have Pro pack with poser 4, will it work then?

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 3:02 PM

Here is a quote from her page: note: Pro Pack Python not supported. Introducing a fresh and brand new idea for Poser 5! HyperREAL-Fusing Photo-Real and Mathmatics, creating an evolution in texturing! By Morris and Face_off! Optimized for Poser 5 Additional MAT poses included for Poser 4 users. Poser PP users will be able to use the P4 MAT poses, however the script is P5 specific.

RNKarenER ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 3:06 PM

OK, so maybe I break out the poser 5 and try it~~~~~~

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 3:28 PM

Poser 5 isn't bad.....You'll like it...nothing to be afraid of :)...Good luck & enjoy!

Ascinct ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 10:55 PM

Thankyou all for your replies! Sorry it took so long for me to respond (just woke up from a late work night shift - still blury eyed) ;/ Thankyou Morris for your explanation, I thinkI know what to do now - which is to buy them all :). In this way I can (well to my understanding) mix and match both scripts, textures, lights, materials....etc! Providing more variety, better experimentation! YAY! I am still going to have to hold out for a while, until I have more money! Ascinct

face_off ( ) posted Fri, 04 March 2005 at 1:33 PM

Ascinct, sorry for the delay in getting to this. Morris is right - RSS does not render as well as HyperReal, but works on most (all with the tip from PapaBlueMarlin) figures. HyperReal is V3/M3 only. RNKarenER, P5 is definitely worth the investment of learning. Break it open :-)
