If you live the UK you might want to look at this URL..

Seems our lovely government wants to pay out even more for the **** they show on TV.

Their paper says: "The means of collecting the fee may have to be changed, so that it became, for example, either a compulsory levy on all households or on ownership of PCs as well as TVs."

Yeaa! Those left wing f******ers are to be removed from office in May - June. The conserv. are promising to stop the TV License. If not then I am out of UK. It is depressing to be alive here anyway!

"...I'm soooooo glad I moved to the US ;-)" Yep... A country truly for the Actual Government, by the Actual Government, against the Common People... ;)

"..the proposals refer to when the BBC's charter is renewed in 2016." So a lot can happen between now and then. It appears to refer to watching TV via broadband. m.

"Those left wing f******ers.." It's amusing to come across somebody that thinks New labour are "left wing"! :D

"It appears to refer to watching TV via broadband". It does. My thought is how can they tell precisely who's accessed a site and exactly where they are. OK, you can record the refering IP, but 90% of these are dynamic. The only way they could do it either a blanket approach. where they nail every broadband user.Or through their plans to use a modfied form of media player (using an "uncrackable" codec to stop piracy) which could identify users. "It's amusing to come across somebody that thinks New labour are "left wing"!" Thats true. The only thing red about TORY Blair is his tie. al

People love feudalism, what's the problem paying to the landlords?

Stupidity also evolves!

Heh, if they start doing stupid s*** like this in the States, like the recent discussions on taxing the Internet, I'm hoisting the pirate flag and going off the grid... :D

Well, if the US Government says that it will be for the funding of its famous War on Terror(TM), it will be all good and well... ;) (Edited for spelling errors...)

Yeah, 2016, long way off, but difficult to enforce. FYI as far as tv licencing goes, you can get around it. Unless the TV licencing van actually catches you in the act of watching TV without a licence, you can still get past the charge in court. You can own all the TV, and video eqipment you want, but as long as you do not recieve or record broadcasts, you don't legally have to have the licence. Just remember which way the burden of proof runs in this country fellas, and don't forget that labour seem to be backing the "criminals" in court now anyway (gippo's, asylum seekers, that little twat T. Martin should have finished off proper trying to sue,) etc" We'll all get away with it if we download the shows off IRC instead of bbc.co.uk (oh yeah, and encrypt our HDDs)

pentamiter your spot on there about the crims in this country. Thats why anyone without a TV licence is an easy collar. The assumption is everyone has a TV, if you ain't got one your're obviously a REAL dangerous crimnal. Mate got caught once. I went to court with him and watched while lots of old people and familys who forget to re-new theirs where fined an average of 4000 each. Yet the little sh*ts that you see every time in the local paper walk out free because their drugs councillor says "their trying hard". While the court found him not guilty, He still got a criminal record and 40 costs. His crime ? Buying a TV capture card for his video camera to make DV movies. Because the law here and the licence states "appratus CAPABLE of reciving a TV signal", and not just a TV or vid. Also handy to note retailers have to give TV Licensing (TVL)details when you buy TV, DVD, Freeview etc or they get fined upto 2000. So if you ain't got a license say it's a gift and give a mates address who's legit. Also when the nice man from TVL arrives you don't have to let him in despite what he says. The only way they can get access then is by asking a magistrates court under an old 1949 law. Of course you'd be in court as well so you'd know when the buggers are coming....:) al
