Subject: relfective volumetric textures?

Hey folks, I've tried in vain to create a volumetric texture with a mirrored surface. I've pretty much decided that it just can't be done -- but I figured I'd ask all you gurus here before I totally gave up.

Oh yeah, I'd also be interested in a glass (refracting) volumetric texture, but I don't think that's possible either.

Nope: No can do. I'd love to have a refractive volume textures, but again... no can do. (would be great to create heat ripples, eh?) Bryce categorizes reflection, refraction, and transparency as surface characteristics only. It would be really nice if we could get surface characteristics on hard-shaded volume materials too, wouldn't it?
