If like me you are constantly looking for ways to control noise on your images this might be worth a look. I have tried the community edition on some of my images and seems to work very well. The community edition is a free download you will find it about halfway down the home page. There are full editions for those willing to pay.

We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

Thanks Richard. This could be a BIG help. Carlos.

It is the best one I have tried so far - I may even consider getting the full version :) Very quick and minimal loss of detail.

ok, i had just finished postwork on this image. crop, adjust brightness contrast, and then used selection tool around the duck, inverted, & then reduced the noise in the entire image except the duck. added frame.

here's the one i did using the noise reduction filter you just told us about. i didn't do the other postwork on it. what i like about it is i really can't tell that there's a loss of quality in the duck's feather when i used this noise reduction over the entire image (used full suppression BTW). can you guys tell any difference in the noise? anything to save me time is good! using that selection tool thingy takes time. if i can get away with having to do that, that's nice. :) wish i had known about this before. i would have saved myself a LOT of time reducing noise in this image! thanks a bunch for sharing this, Richard. Hope you don't mind i did this experiment here! :)

Well, since I couldn't see any noise in the original I can't see any difference between the 3 pics to be honest!

thanks richard for the link!! :D... usually i use the "edge preserving smooth" in PSP of 1-2 as a regular post process edit & then USM in PS... also quite pleased with the xero plugin... "super smooth" which i use more on a selective basis or layering it in & up contrast to make the black black in those noisy darker images... will give this a try

I was getting all excited when I saw Mac versions...but then I saw the free one is PC only. Grrrrrrrr. Looks like it does a good job though. Can someone post a before and after with an image that has detail but a lot of noise too, like something with noise in the sky?

It would be appreciated...I'd then know if I want to get it.

I usually use the Smart blur in photoshopCS to selectivley reduce noise in an image, or gausian blur if I'm doing a full background. I don't normally do the whole image though. Ya know, most plug-in filters just use the tools that Photoshop already has built in. It just steamlines the process and provides and interface. If we could figure out a set of actions for noise reduction, then we wouldn't need to buy this thing.... Any Photoshop wizards up to the task? I could give it a try if I can find some extra time.

Thanks...I'm not sure if I trusted their samples, they seems too good. You show here that it actually is pretty good. Neat image does get beat out, but I notic that Noiseware does loose a tiny bit more detail. Not that you would really notice in the final result though. Thanks Rich!
