Subject: Help with using Textures that are saves as "Cameras"

Acadia ( ) posted Mon, 25 April 2005 at 12:26 AM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 1:33 AM

I have some textures for an outfit that are not in the Poses folder; they are in the Cameras folder. The creator made them like that so they would load faster. Anyway, how do you apply textures that are saved that way? I've tried applying them like you would any other texture, but while it shows in the pose window, when I do a draft render, it doesn't show up. I'm stuck :(

Hi, I want to help you, but my english is not so good. I hope you understand me. You can load this textures to your outfit on this way? Good, load it and then save this as a MAT-file in any Pose-folder with given your own name. Right down on "+". I hope this works. I dont know what for texture and what is the ending of this file. So I will try at first when I have this like you. Lupa

Hi, thank you for the reply. I tried it, but it didn't work. I have my figure posed, she's wearing the kimono, and I go to Cameras folder, apply the kimono there that I want. It shows up in the Pose window. I did what you suggested and added that scene to my poses folder, and a thumbnail appeared there. I applied whatever was saved in that thumbnail image, and did a draft render. The texture that rendered was the old texture, not the kimono texture from the Camera folder.

mmh, I did not have this case yet. And a kimono I dont have to try by myself. Perhaps you can ask the designer? Is this freeware? Perhaps I can load this and try on my Poser? Lupa

I did send a PM to the creator of it. It's not a free item, but I got it free in the buy one get one free sale at Poser Pros. It's really nice texures, but I didn't realize that it would be so difficult to apply the textures. I passed it by several times and then figured that I wanted it, and also that I could learn something else (Cameras textures).

Guess I'll work with something else until I here from him.

I've never worked with cameras before, other than switching from main to face camera and back again, so this is something I am a total newbie at :)

I hope you get reply from the creator. I also by something on Poser Pros. And I also write a mail to the creator ... I am waiting and waiting ... and I hear nothing. :( I never heard from this, that a texture are in the folder of a camera. I will write in a german poser-forum from this, perhaps I get an answer and I will tell you, ok? Lupa

That's it? Sheesh, even I can do that :) Thanks :) Why then do some people save their textures as cameras? Are you supposed to be able to use them like that, or are you expected to change the name and move the files once you install them? I have other outfits that also have their textures saved as camera files and didn't bother with them until now. As I said before, this was my first try trying to do anything in the camera folder.

Well, they works like a normal MAT-Pose in your Pose folder. Because you can only save 256 folders in any Poser folder in Poser 4 and PP, the Camera folder is the only alternative way to save MAT poses.

But if that is the case and you can apply them and use them from there.... how come it showed in the pose window, but wouldn't render?

Thank you, changing the extensions worked well. I would still like to learn how to use them directly from the camera folder though. It seems like a good solution to that missing thumbnail problem. I will check back later today. I'm heading to bed now. Night :)

Maybe are photographic textures?.... You can put the textures in any folder of runtime and Poser will find them. Now I am puting many textures in the same folder as the character or prop, it's more organised for moving all product to another folder or CD.

Hm, thats strange, normally that works. Select the cloth and apply (double click) the MAT Pose in your Camera folder. BTW, you can't save a MAT-Pose to your Pose folder with the "+". You can only make a MAT-Pose with MAT-Pose Edit and save them in your Pose folder. You can only save body poses with "+".

Try applying the mats in the material room instead of the pose room. (Assuming you are using P5 or P6).

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

*It seems like a good solution to that missing thumbnail problem.*

The best solution for that problem is to go into General Preferences, Library, and set it like on the screenshot above. That is in Poser 6.

Are you talking "textures" as in the Textures that are in the Texture folder, or are you referring to the .pz2 textures that are routinely in the Poses folder? The files that I had for the kimono texture were .cm2/.rsr/.png files and in the Camera folder. Assuming you are referring to .pz2 files in the Poses folder, don't they have to be in the Poses folder to be used in Poser? Are you saying that I can take some of those .pz2 files out and put them back into the camera folder and leave them as .pz2 files and still be able to use them as I would have in Poses folder? I increased my number of thumbnails by editing some file, but I don't think I edited it enough because when I moved the newly renamed files from the camera folder to the Poses folder, the thumbnails don't show up. I don't get the shrugging man, just a light grey circle. Which is why I'm very interested and asking tons of questions about this .cm2 solution, or being able to place my .pz2 files in any folder in runtime.

"Are you talking "textures" as in the Textures that are in the Texture folder" Textures, anything that ends with *.jpg, *tif, *.bum, etc

I think the reason some people saved pz2 files as camera files was because the Pose folder was getting so BIG. Almost all the stuff from PoserStyle was that way. I found that they would only work for me if I applied them to all the parts without doing a test render in between. In other words, apply them to the boots, pants, shirt, etc. and then render. As soon as I did one render, then the clothing pose files saved as camera files would no longer add the textures to the items I selected. Of course that was a problem if you missed a piece of clothing. It was easier in the end just to rename them and move them to the pose library. With Poser 5 and 6, this is less of a problem (large library) since you can use sub-folders.
