I don't usually ask people to have a look at my images,......however, in this case I am,......I am particularly interested in comments(votes, I don't give a crap about, since it's not Hot 20 material). I actually did some modeling on this one,...........I made the main ruined wall in the foreground and the floor(which came in at a whopping 474,000 poly's)both made in 3D Studio Max 4.2,............this is my first foray into modeling of any kind. It was a bit distressing to me that as of this writing it has gotten only 26 viewings and 3 comments,.........of course I did post it at about 5am in the morning. So,.........please go take a look and leave a comment on the modeling. I know it's not much to modelgods like Drac, Kemal, drawbridgep and the like,......but I put a fair amount of work into it and I actually like this one. Thanks,...........TOM(sackrat).

474000 poly's for the floor and the wall? is that including the debris?

As I said, good job. Did you model the rubble? Or it's the texture? The lighting makes it difficult to see.

@Rayraz,........nope that's just for the flooring itself,.....I think I hit the "Tessellate" button one to many times,.......when exported as a 3ds file some of the part names were changed within the app to "To Big 1" To Big 2" and so on. I modeled part of the rubble and part is from Stonemason's "Greek Ruin". This was actually 2 renders,....one for the interior and one for the exterior, I used object mask renders to composite them in PS. I going to try more modeling in the future,.........I hate to admit it but the wall took 9 tries to get it right, and I was still not satisfied and almost gave up. I agree about the lighting but was so frustrated with the rendertime(Used a radial light semi-dome), that I just went with it as it was. Here's the Screenshot Fran,.....OK,.... I was mistaken, the floor was only 422,747 ploy's, but ther are 2 of them layered on top of each other. Thanks for all the comments and crits.

yea sounds like that's a few tesselations too much. Does max4.2 allow you to tesselate only seperate parts of a model? maybe that would make things a bit easier on the polycount :)

Yeah,.........with the "Edit Mesh" tool you can select by polys, vertex, etc. I just sort of went crazy,.......write it off to being a newbie modeler. The floor was opened in Amorphium and Quantitized(spelling) also,........that was also probably a mistake. I added some "Noise" in Amporphium and wanted to get the look of wheatered worn wood to the mesh, instead of just relying on a texture to do it. Another mistake. Nothing succeeds like excess.

Thanks for the wireframe sackrat, fascinating to see the components of the final image like that, I see that the magazine was a terrain? Right?

No,.......the magazine was done C4D, it's a cube scaled down on the "Y" axis, mapped with the texture then "Crumpled".

Confess I saw the thumbnail in the gallery but passed on as it was so dark... Now I do take a look I can appreciate the enormous amount of detail and work you've put into it. With Bryce, Max, C4D and Amorphium (not to metion you) putting all that hard labour into it, I would say you need to step up the lighting to showcase your modelling. I know it's a dark ruined building with brighter light outside, but IMO you need a trade-off between realism and grabbing the eye. What about some extra light streaming in through the ruined wall? That would be one realistic way to introduce it. Also I didn't spot the little dog until I saw the wireframe - maybe it's just me, or maybe he and the GI should be a little more into the centre of the pic? As for everything else, the textures are great and the modelling is excellent - you deserve a medal just for mastering Max. I've been trying for 2 years and I still can't get my head round it!
