If you can't afford 3dsmax, there are lots of free programs you can use. (See link.)A lot of people like Wings3D. But you should try a bunch of programs yourself, and see which one you like. Personally, I prefer Anim8or. Here's a tutorial on making clothing with Anim8or:

oh..can't pass this up..here's 2 I'm in various stages with..;) tip- start with hats and shoes..and work your way up to clothes with lots of folds, etc..;) www.blender.org - can do a lot, but the interface will drive you to drink..both this and Wings are free..;)I wish I'd said that..
