Subject: Extended Voting and Challenge Themes - opinions needed

dido6 ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2005 at 12:16 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 5:19 PM

I just wanted to let everyone know that I've extended voting for two more days as we have a three way tie right now.

After this next challenge we're going to go a new direction with the Monthly Challenge Themes...

I can close the July Challenge and declare a tie if everyone agrees to starting this new direction early. If not we'll go the two more days and see if we can get a winner to pick the challenge theme for August.

Please let me know what you all think. :)

Diana Edited for title and because I can't spell :P

The story I found to be best representative of the theme (how's that for P.C. jiggery-pokery?) didn't even get one vote.
It was the one about the demons in hell.
Let's give that one the prize because the author has humility and told a good story.

If any one disagrees, I challenge them to a duel at a place and time of my choosing, to which they will not be privy and, when they don't show up, will be branded a big cheese-weenie and laughed about at future writer's gatherings.

I then vote to close and move in the new direction.

While I usually participate in these challenges I quit voting long ago. I have never been able to bring myself to vote for myself. Stupid, I know, but that's the way I am. Since most people do vote for themselves (at least it seems so to me) it quickly became evident that to vote for someone else was tantamount to voting against myself; in effect a two stroke penalty. So I simply quit voting and let the cards fall where they may. Whatever you decide, please keep the monthly challenge going. I enjoy the challenge and look forward to it every month. This month I just happened to be out of town. jon

We're definitely keeping it going. :) Just taking a new direction with the way it will work and how themes will be chosen. Quite honestly I'd like to go ahead and get started with the new ideas, but the promise has already been made that the winner chooses this month, so... I'd like to see what everyone says. Thanks to you both for coming into the thread, I appreciate it. :)

I also enjoy the challenge and did vote, but not for myself. I really enjoyed the time line story. Diana, I am open to any change you may make as it might attract more people here. I have been trying to get friends and chat room members to join but have only managed to get one registerd so far. And she is into the art section more than the writing. :o( Anyway a change is as good as a holiday so let the holidays come! Hugs to all.

Well, I vote for others as well, and don't mind losing (life is too short to waste energy burning about being 'one-down'). I haven't written for a while (decided to follow Dialyn's excellent counsel and write only what I think is impeccable, and also break my dependence on the Net like I wrote in my modem poem), but I'm for change as well, Diana. The current way is fine, but a society that doesn't welcome change ingrows and stagnates, so let us know what you have in mind, and it'll be fun stretching in a new direction. :) Personally, I think being in a tie is humbling and good for character growth. I'm for the tie. This is just my SUBJECTIVE opinion, NOT intended for anyone personally. :]

I like the sound of this "new direction". Call it a tie.

Gee, each Forum has its own mores... over in the Challenge Forum we carefully and graciously don't vote for ourselves... and it is hard to get people to come in and vote if we have an entry because it might appear that we were trolling for votes, and none of us want that! (How's THAT for a train-wreck of a sentence?) We just want more people looking at the entries because next time they might jump into the water with us. Carolly
