Subject: ApolloMax UTC plugin poll

Attached Link: ApolloMax UTC plug-in poll

Please visit the link below and cast your vote for an ApolloMax UTC plugin. I just found out that unless there are at least 250 people wanting the plug-in the creator of UTC will not make one for ApolloMax. You will have to sign up in 3dUniverse's forums in order to vote! http://www.3duniverse.co.za/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=201&TPN=6 David

UTC? What's that?

Universal Texture Converter. It can convert textures between the Unimesh characters and also from M2/V2 to the Unimesh and vice versa. David

Yes please cast your vote if you own ApolloMax and the UTC plug-in. I would dearly love to have a plug-in for Max so I could use all the great skin textures I already own on him.

Tyger_purr ( ) posted Thu, 11 August 2005 at 12:12 PM

sorry, im not going to sign up for yet another forum just to say yes, i'd buy it. I'd have to buy UTC first, but i would do it if I could convert to Apollo.

I cant get into the site, but I would love this plug-in to.

Jade, you say thay you won't vote because you don't want to sign up for another forum. Hell, I can understand that, but you do realise that UTC will not convert to Apollo unless there are enough votes?

Cool - I've tried many times to log on of late, but couldn't get in, and couldn't re-register. I just tried again, and finally it processed a re-registration and I was able to vote. (Yes) It's up to 87 in favor, by the way.

. . . Members also have access to several cool Freebies DW's made for some of his products, also. I like the Buddy toon character and the pile 'o skulls in particular, but there's several more of excellent quality, if anyone needs more motivation to register.

jade_nyc ( ) posted Thu, 11 August 2005 at 2:20 PM

I already voted - it's Tyger_purr that doesn't want to register TigerD. And in all fairness, I can understand that - it is a PITA to have to register at site after site. However I would be willing to ask Tyger_purr please, pretty please take the couple of minutes to register and vote because it would be so worth it to have a plug-in for Max. lol I've posted at 3D Universe asking Dark Whisper to consider moving the poll to a portion of the site where people wouldn't need to log-in or register but I'm not a web code genius and don't know if it's even possible.

but you do realise that UTC will not convert to Apollo unless there are enough votes? how many makes "enough"?

The number mentioned at the poll thread is 250 "yes" votes for DW to consider the 3-4 weeks of work to create the conversion plugin worthwhile. Most existing mil-figure texture conversion plug-ins only required a few days, it says. Personally, I think it will sell well, and certainly generate a lot of additinal sales of the core program, but several weeks of work is a real commitment of time, and I don't blame DW for wanting confirmation of market interest.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 11 August 2005 at 4:40 PM

there aren't 250 ApolloMax users around posting. Steve isn't gunna get his votes due to login site issues as well as how hard it is to sign up for his site. Its very unfortunate because there are well over 250 ApolloMax users they just don't seem to be vocal. I think it's funny if you look at the poll results that there are 14 no votes for the plugin to be developed. I can understand the pricing no votes, but there are some that want Posette plugin and voted no haha. I mentioned this and had started new threads here in product showcase, at the Daz forum, as well as the runtimedna apollomax forum when the poll 1st went up, the number of yes votes went up by 6. There just aren't enough users reading the forums or signed up with the 3d universe forum. I'll buy it if it comes out, I've voted yes, but I'm not holding my breath.

There's more to this than merely owning Apollo Max for those of us who don't already have UTC. I calculated what the investment would be for me based on DAZ' current prices and a guesstimate of $20.00 for an A-Max plugin. (Steve said that the cost of the plugins is based on time put into them. He indicated that while some plugins took a few days to complete, A-Max would take 2-3 weeks, hence my higher-end estimate, and the considerable pricing disparity between existing plugins.) The total came out to about $70.00. Hm. Kinda hard to promise in advance that I'd spend that much money on a texture converter, especially when folks like RawArt and lobo75 are releasing A-Max textures at very reasonable prices.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 11 August 2005 at 7:16 PM

Well I have over $400 invested in Daz figure textures, and have invested in all the UTC Plugins for each model. $25 is a no brainer to use my existing purchased tetures as well as freebie textures. That's me. UTC for all existing plugins is $87.70 total + $25 for ApolloMax plugin if it comes would be $112.70 total price for EVERYTHING. $80.8 if you want to convert M1/2/3, v1/2/3 to ApolloMax. It really boils down to how many purchased textures do you have and if you want to keep using that investment on a different model.

xoconostle ( ) posted Thu, 11 August 2005 at 10:54 PM

That's definitely a big consideration, true.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 11 August 2005 at 11:02 PM

Anton can't login to 3d universe to vote for his own figure in this poll. now how sad is THAT!

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 12 August 2005 at 3:35 AM

I've voted yes and I'll buy it too. But the fact is that even if you vote yes now, there's no saying you're actually going to buy it when it comes out. So while this poll can give you a trend, it's by no means a valid estimate of how many product you'll sell. It's like the wishlists here L Of half the people who has my stuff on their wishlist would actually BUY them as well, I would be able to retire to the bahamas (ok perhaps not quite, but...) Never quite understood the login issue btw. What's the problem of signing up at a site (save for any problems afterwards with the login)? It's a small price to pay to get goodies :o) And there ARE lots of goodies on DarkWhisper's site!

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 12 August 2005 at 6:42 AM

It's a PITA to sign up for site after site after site. If it always worked as it was supposed to...but it doesn't.

OTOH, people always say they want stuff, but it doesn't mean they will buy it. One merchant was complaining that over 30 people asked her to convert one of her clothing packs for M2. She did, and two people bought it.

So perhaps making people jump through hoops in order to vote is a good idea. Only those who are serious will do it. Otherwise, you know people will get their friends who don't even own Apollo and UTC (may not even own Poser) to vote.

no login required to vote now that the poll has been moved. login is required to post in the 3D Universe forum though or to make comments.

gtrdon ( ) posted Sat, 13 August 2005 at 1:06 AM

I voted for it A definite must have!!! By the way I'd shell out 25 bucks for a Apollo pose and/or a BVH converter....If someone wants to make one I have alot of time, effort and money invested in these things(yes I know Apollo has more joints, but I still think it can be done)!
