I use Poser4.0.How to make water in Poser4.0?Who can be detailed to explain it? Thanks.

Most Poser 4 users make the water in postwork (Photoshop, PSP) using some kind of filter. Since Poser 4 doesn't have raytracing, creating good looking water surfaces depends very much on a good texture map and transparency map, and on the "model" of the water. Poser 4 does not have the capability to render refraction (the effect you see when you put a stick in a pool, it looks "broken" at the water surface). Two models that are good for creating water surfaces are Microcosm from RDNA and Uniwave by becco_uk. You can make your own water model by using a magnet and/or a wave (I don't know if Poser 4 has a wave deformer) on a flat plane consisting of many polygons. The Poser 4 ground plane is a usable candidate. (see the tutorial by geep on how to make a prop from the ground plane). You'll have to apply a "watery" texture map to your water model. There may be a couple of free water texture maps hanging around on the Internet. Set the transparency to about 0.5 to 0.6, set the specular color to white, and make sure the swimming pool/lake/river/whatever you're making has a bottom. It's just a start, you'll probably have to tweak a lot of settings before the water looks more or less real. And another option is downloading DAZ|Studio. It has reflection and refraction and displacement mapping, so you can build your water based on physically correct parameters. It can also import your Poser 4 scene, as long as you don't use magnets.

There's a good tutorial on making water in Poser 5, right on this site.

Ajax has a complete Poser 5 shader pack in freestuff, it includes several raytraced water materials. Could be useful.

Could svdl tell me about Ajax's e-mail?

You don't need his email. Click the freestuff link (included in the message), and type Ajax in the search field. The Poser 5 shader pack shows up in the second or third page of the search results.

Mapps has made some materials for poser 5 that include some water ones.

mapps ( ) posted Thu, 25 August 2005 at 12:43 PM

There is also some water maps and models on my site also, they work in poser 4+. There is a huge one in "Lynn's Point" can download here but read the notes for trouble shooting. And thank SVDL for hosting it :-) I'm out of bandwith till the 29th hough, the now cloths sets were a little too popular...lol

Can Mapps tell me the water maps and models's creation method?

The model was made using Carrara's Terrain maker and a bump map made in photoshop. You can make water in poser though. You need the high res square (from the primitives or import the object file included below if P4 doesn't have a HighRes square) and use a wave generator (a form of magnet deformer).

See the picture links below for the exact values and locations of the options.

1 load the High res square and add a Wave Deformer (pic 1)

2 set the Wave prop values to those in the screen capture (they are a good place to start). You can try increasing or decreasing the values to see what the effect of each one is. I recomend small amounts + or - .05 at a time. (pic 2)

3 Adjust the Wave zone prop to cover a area larger then the water (see pic 3 for values).

As for the water texture map blotches of white and blue work well. If you have photoshop (5 or later) create a new document about 2000x2000 and wet the background to white (not transparent) on the tool palet set one square to white or very pale blue and the other to a nice medium water blue. Then use, filter-Render-Clouds then Filter-Distort-Glass. This will give you a testure that works well for water, in both cases use the default values (Pic4). Back in poser apply the texture to the Highres square and set the transparency to between .6 (very clear water) and .8 (cloudy water). Thats it, you should have a good looking water prop that you can even animate by moving the Wave prop or just changing the values.

If you don't have photoshop feel free to use the attached texture (Water4). By playing with the wave generator you will learn to understand it better. It's one of those things that the more you play with it the easier it is to understand. You can increase the complexity of the water.

I did the screen captures in Poser 6 so some of it will look different in Poser 4 but the idea is the same. There may be a couple of options in the captures that 4 doesn't have (not sure on this) if so just ignore them. I also don't know if poser 4 has a highres square so here is one you can download in object format that I whiped up in Carrara. just import it into poser with all import options turned off and it will load right where ya need it :-)

Mapps: Where is the pic1,2,3?I can't see the pic1,2,3,so I can not see the value. Can you send the pictuer of value to me?

Sorry click on the "Water1" "Water 2" "Water3" "Water4" they are the pics :-)
