Subject: Newbie 101 - Decimated Mesh Preview

I've been using Vue now for about 8 months. Before that I used an older version of 3d Studio max. In max, the preview windows all showed the exact geometry. In vue it's decimated. I assume this is to help cut down on resources right? The problem is that certain small meshes disappear altogether in the preview. So my questions are... 1 - Does using decimated mesh preview use more computer resources, or less, than showing the full mesh previews? 2 - Is there a way to turn off decimated mesh previews? I've tried unchecking that box in the options panel, but it doesn't seem to do anything. 3 - is there a way to only turn off the decimated mesh preview for specific objects? Sometimes trying to line up objects exactly becomes quite a pain when you can't see where it really is due to the decimation and I would love to know how to undo the decimated mesh preview. Thanks, Dragontales

You haven't said what version you are using. Anyway, you can go to the preferences and play with the display options to see what suits you and your system best. But maybe try to remember what the original settings were so that you can return if it is not as good as it is now. What i do a lot is to use wireframe displays for all windows but the camera one. Makes things faster. Then especially for large models, after i have positioned them i switch those to wireframe box mode. Yes, you can do that for each member of the scene individually. Makes things much faster too. Last but not least, i switch off the automatic scene preview option and do that manually when i need it. A big resource "eater" too.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using 5 infinite. I'll go back and try some of the setting options. Thanks for the tips... Dragontales
