Subject: water tutorial

any tutorial as to how to animate water as when a boat sails by? Thanks

What version of Vue? For Infinite there is a tutorial in the manual. Making an ocean.

I think he means that he wants the trail of the boat animated. I have no idea.

I would try to combine two or even more terrains that are animated in the way the manual describes it. Wether it is successful is another thing. Would be interesting to see!

i suppose the best way to do something like that would be to set up a function through which water particles change colour and texture as they interact with the boat, therefore creating the illusion of a trail, but i'm guessing that vue doesn't really focus on that type of processing and even if it did, i'd still have no idea how to do it :p

Only the function wizard DBurdick would know. He did a very very good tutorial about foam for water at the beach. Maybe this concept can be used because it has a sort of interaction between beach and water material - when i understood it right.

Alternatively, you may wish to consider using the RealWave function the RealFlow3 demo from Next Limit Technologies. I use a full licenced copy but understand the demo is functional (for non commercial work). My licenced copy will output a series of meshes in .obj format making it useful for programs that do not load RealFlow binary sequences. Perhaps the demo has this output too?

@ Becco UK: realflow looks amazing, but it only works on Win Pro versiosn. What a shame. But then I checked the price tag, and thought it didn't matter after all!!!!

bruno021: Yes I use RealFlow3 on a system with XPPro but for those without XPPro it may still be worth giving the functional demo a try. For close up work I think a shaped mesh is preferable to flat planes with a bump map. I agree RealFlow is relatively expensive but there is little else with similar capabilities. The attached image is a current project that includes a RealWave surface.
