Subject: Problem making conforming...

Has anyone run into this problem? The top object is the exact same object as the bottom EXCEPT it's made conforming. I think you can see the problem. I have no clue what's causing this and/or how to fix it... Please help.

possible that you have a polygon from the toe grouped to the foot. I would double check your groups :)

Taking that what your saying into account because that is exactly where the two groups come together (foot and toe) I messed with the groups a bit and I continue to have the same problem no matter where I place the group. No matter where the groups come together I get that funky problem on the conforming version. Tis weird! --Naylin

Ok, I don't know if this is an appropriate way to fix this problem, but I did fix it by applying a very tiny (.005) chamfer to the edges around the sole of the shoe. Would you guys think that this is a good fix, or should I have tried some other way? --Naylin

Has the mesh failed to join at that point? Export it to your modelling app and do a couple of sub-divisions and see if it splits. Or run it through UV Mapper.

UV Mapper showed absolutely no problems with the mesh. I had thought about that before I even posted here. --Naylin

Okies. If you've got two vertices in the same place (or very close together but not connected) you probably wouldn't see anything in UV Mapper .. I was thinking of using the Vertices > Weld tool to see if anything was reported. Good luck.

Poser does this to me too. I've found that it's usually a non-planar issue. try selecting the polys in the area there and smoothing them or triple them. P.S. Sometimes I've put them in on purpose to achieve a pinch effect

I had a similar problem with a pair of boots I modeled. I fixed it by making the entire sole assigned to the foot and just the upper tip of the boot assigned to the toe. As crazy as it seemed, it worked quite well.

I've decided that using the chamfer works good enough and dosn't add too many more polys... I had thought about grouping like kirwyn stated however I don't feel it would give me the flexability that I want. I hadn't thought about triple'ing the polys however after using the chamfer I like the output better anyway. Thanks to all, --Naylin

if this is in P6 its likely a smoothing issue, P6 doesnt smooth properly around seams next to 90 digree angles without adjusting the crease angle much higher than the default on the effected bodyparts. Champfering or beveling the 90 digree angle is a good solution for your issue as you have found.

I was getting similar things whenever I exported Poly objects from 3ds - seemed to fix it if I changed all the groups to editable meshes rather than polys before I exported the obj - may not be the same thing, but just in case thought I'd mention it cheers Sean
