Hey all, Just thought I would post a WIP of my image for the cg talk's Spectacular 3d contest. My image is set in the middle ages with a couple of monks looking at either a supernatural or alien ship for the first time. I am hoping the landscape or view has that Spectacular feel to it , the landscape will be a fairly large part of my image. I have attached an image which shows the scene so far, I have to add trees to the gorge and landscape as well as villages on the terrains. The foreground is going to have a monestary with a couple of monks looking at the space ship or event. I was going to have one of the monks dropping a bible as though this event is going to make him loose his faith were the other monk will be hanging on tightly to his bible. Let me know if you have any comments which will make the image better in your opinion. I am also going to post an image of the Castle model up close in the carrara gallery and below is the link to my thread at cg talk if you want to take a look. There is some very good images taking shape for the contest if you want to look.

Hey, this looks like a great start! I imaginge that you'll be adding texture to the bridges/arches later, which will definitely help the piece. Another thing that will add punch will be some sort of lights/glow effects for the UFO. I look forward to seeing this image as it progresses.

Hi! Is this image all made in C4? If it is , it is great even as a draft!! Well done!

Hey , Thanks for the comments. Kolschey,I am going to be modeling new bridges, these were just very quick models to get a feel for what the composition of the image should roughly be. I don't know what the bridges are going to look like but they should be similar to these. I am not sure if I am going the ufo route but I will keep the glow effects in mind, thanks. Paultan, Yes, this was all modelled in C4pro , could have been done in the standard too I think. The Castle was modeled in the vm as one vm object, the close terrains were modeled in the vm as well, the distant mountains are standard terrain objects which I will probably change more to suit the scene.

I'm having the hardest time getting myself going on mine. I got sick during my last time off. Now I'm working 7 long 12 hour days. Hopefully my next week off, coming Wednesday I can devote some time to the project. Mike, do you have a messenger of some sort? Could use some help on specific things.

Brian, There is a private message system at cgtalk , you could ask questions through that if you want.

Brian, I just sent you a private message through the CG talk message system.

I think it has a great start. Compositionally, the details you were discussing will make a great difference tho as to where your eye goes. Based on your description, for me I am not really believing the floating object is technologically advanced, it actually looks rustic and machine-like. That could be a whole other way to go, but it just didn't seem to coincide w/ your description. I realize it is a WIP so it may change greatly. Good work.

No need to think outside the box....
    Just make it invisible.

The sun should be in the background to add spectacular to the scene. Where the sun is now, it seems like a pic of just another routine transport ship landing.

Hey all , Thanks for the input, the spaceship in the scene was one from a previous project,I just put it in the scene to get a feel for where the ship should go. I will model another ship that hopefully suits the scene more if I go this way. Shonner, The sun's position will be in the background somehow or maybe I will have a real dramatic sky with the sun off to the right. I have yet to figure out the lighting .
