Looks like the only thing it doesn't have is the plant/object system.Even has GI....DAZ might need to kick it into overdrive now....Where's Bryce6 eh?

actually, it would be better for Bryce not to have the plant system :) from what I see it's hideous in its out-of-the-box version...

I think an ecosystem like function in bryce would be fairly usable...maybe not though.

I hope for Bryce's sake, that thing can't import Poser Dynamic Hair/Cloth.

If it can - insert high-pitched squeal from DAZ here

Oh well, some companys listen to their public (Pixologic/E-On) and go far. Unfortunately some don't, and will never learn.

Absolutely LMAO at this (BIG-TIME) - I mean it's not as if anyone with a half-decent education never saw that one coming. I've said this before, and I'll say it again;

Bryce6 had better be able to import Poser animation (With dynamic cloth and hair - DIRECTLY) or it's going to miss out BIG-TIME!

Easel looks like its a catch up attempt to harvest the "new to 3d crowd" to me... much what DazStudio/bryce are already doing...

"some companys listen to their public (Pixologic/E-On)"

e-on are still velcro-ing their feet back on after a rash of... interesting v5i updates and store policies they tried to spring on their public not so long ago.

At the moment I'm playing a bit with the v5i demo... and well, e-on policy is that you can't get a downloadable manual for it until you buy it, so the demo is proving pretty frustrating at times when I'm trying to make it jump though some simple hoops (though some things are much easier to do than I expected them to be, and the vue forum folks seem quite helpful).

TB - From my playing so far,eco-systems work best with the plants and rocks in Vue (i.e. it can make each one unique in shape/colour), and not so convincingly with other things (where it won't(or I haven't found how) be able to reshape things and make them look unique).

Vue plants (the couple I have access to in the demo) look great at a distance, but up semi-close, they're pretty ick... so e-on would want to sort that out (assuming the plants that I can't get to are of the same quality as the ones I can get to and that the v5i plants are the same as the ones in Easel) as most poser folks who may look at it are going to want to have things (like plants) close up to the camera.

I notice someone on that Vue thread said you can't get "ultra" settings in Easel... that could hurt... a lot of Vue's pre-built render settings aren't that great when you start using soft shadows or other similar sorts of things, and so ultra is almost a must.

Ultra is most of the time overkill. Since the render engine was updated Broadcast = Superior & Superior = Ultra. I always render in Broadcast. Rendering in Ultra at times(scene heavy) your pic might be done by Xmas LOL.

@Flak

I know what you mean about E-On, but what I meant was that they're doing their research and they're giving people the features they actually want. In that respect, I don't think DAZ can compare to the likes of E-On and certainly not Pixologic. You only have to view Pixologic's forum to see how pleased everyone is with what they have, and where the product is going.

Are Bryce users this enthusiastic about what DAZ has/is doing with Bryce?

E-On like others, might mess-up in their marketing from time to time - but at least there are ways for their user-base to get the features they neeed (if they want it).

When DAZ aquired Bryce I thought WOW! Here's a company who might actually KNOW what their public are going to want Bryce to do. Unfortunately, I never reckoned on bringing Studio into the equation :-/

hmm i see they take into consideration that people use Radeon gfx cards as well. Nice price for what it does. Time to sweet talk the wife i think :)

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I just fear that DAZ may loose alot of money before they can do much with bryce.They(DAZ) almost seem like they want to start a poser/vue bryce/studio war.I don't know, maybe DAZ is listening to the userbase but just keeping it all super secret to taunt us...lol.

Well, to be fair to DAZ, they did do a survey quite a while back on a few things - some things to do with their poser content and some to do with bryce.

Of the 4-5 bryce related things in the survey, I think that better poser figure importing/compatibility for bryce was the number one thing that came up for what people wanted for bryce, and so they've done that, but they did it differently to just the pz3 import thing that Vue has - i.e. DAZ sort of added a figure lab. I haven't really had time yet to work over the DS integration thing in B5.5, but the ability to repose a figure while "inside" bryce seems pretty damn handy if putting a figure or two into your scenes (what quite a few people do with bryce) is your thing.

TB - I hope that it doesn't turn into one of those pissing contests/wars (I think it'd take both sides to do that if it happened, not just one). I hope Vue gets DS import abilities actually.

Len - I think most of the 3d companies try and listen to their user base to some extent - some of the wishlists they can do, some they can't (for a whole variety of reasons - cash flow being a big one). To me, E-on are an unknown quantity - I haven't really had anything to do with them yet. I've seen people in the forums at this site say that they'd like e-on (and curious labs for that matter before it got munched up) to de-buggify their software before unleashing the next version on the public (and they've been saying that for a couple of versions now). I like what e-on are doing with Vue Infinite - looks to me like they are really trying to hunt out the bugs and hopefully they'll continue to do this before they release the next version (Vue Infinity Squared? ;) ).

What TB mentions about the money - I guess thats my fear a bit as well.

dlk30341 - I was playing around with trying to make smooth shadow/no shadow transitions with softshadows in V5i, and the regions of softshadow kept being really speckly until I went to ultra and beyond (i.e. cranking up some of the user render settings to try and make it a smooth transition). I may have been trying to do it the wrong way (but thats what happens without the manual).

Interesting reading people. Now, DAZ and Bryce. I'm quite worried for Bryce's future...but not because of DAZ. I haven't been a Bryce user for years, but it saddens me to see Bryce transfered between so many companies...it is not good for a product - code becomes mixed, developement slows etc. There is a market for Bryce, but that market is shrinking as Bryce falls behind on features. I can't think of a feature that is unique to Bryce, that isn't also done (in its own way) in a different app. Existing customers alone aren't enough to keep it going, it needs to attract new blood. E-on aren't without my worries either. For the size of the company I think they need to downsize their product range...maybe drop Vue 5 Pro Studio and Ozone - Easel, Esprit and Infinite with the up-coming Fusion is more than enough for a small company and just about fills the market. The company makes mistakes and I feel this is proof that they are juggling too many balls...and with their push to enter the professional studio market, ball dropping (that has already been witnessed in the consumer market) will not be tollerated. Saying that, development on the Vue product line is never ending and always moving forward, so I know which wagon I'm glad I am on. Flak - You are correct concerning Vue trees to a certain extent, but with just a little texture manipulation they can look good close up too...as seen in the attached image. Cheers

"I just fear that DAZ may loose alot of money" Never happen. DAZ makes all their money selling those figures, lol. I mean, that is one of the things that gives me the warm and fuzzies, DAZ is a money maker to begin with, and they always will be. And...they LOVE Bryce as it is their raytracing baby to render out their figures they sell. Bryce's parents will not be going out of business just because of say, poor Bryce 5.5 sales, which could have happened with a different company. They're not gonna dump Bryce, because now instead of JUST selling figures, they are selling figures AND playing the leagues with e-fronteir (poser) and e-on (vue). I mean, I don't think ANY company who may have purchased Bryce could give us updates/upgrades fast enough, lol! But that aside, I couldn't be happier that DAZ has Bryce.
