Subject: Copying V3 Character to V3 Reduced Resolution

baggettbear ( ) posted Tue, 01 November 2005 at 2:35 PM ยท edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 1:03 AM

Looking through past posts, it seems this topic has been addressed several times, but I can't parse a definitive answer from the responses. All I wish to do is copy a V3 character created using only the DAZ morphs to the V3 reduced resolution figure. So far...

  • I have created an INJ pose of the original character using injection magic. This works fine on another V3, but apparently cannot work on V3 RR because this model does not use injection morphs.

  • I have followed the DAZ tutorial using Injection Pose Builder (V1.5) to convert the INJ pose to a "normal morph pose". It's a simple procedure, and a pose is created, but it does nothing when applied to V3 RR, or V3 for that matter. In fact, even when using IPB to create INJ poses, it has never worked for me -- again, a pose file is created, but nothing changes when applied to a figure.

  • I have saved the original V3 character (morphs applied) to a pose file, making sure to include the morph channels. Like the IPB method, this does not affect the morphs of either V3 RR or V3 when applied. However, it will apply the pose and expression of the original figure when it was saved (which is all I thought could be done with PZ2 files anyway).

However, others have implied that it can be done. In fact, the DAZ tutorial states this outright.

Please, if someone has accomplished this, let me know. And if it is possible, any advice on what I need to do would be appreciated. The only reason I am using the RR figures is to minimize resources for Long Shot views in sequential frames, but if I can't create approximations of the characters used in the close shots, the RR versions are pretty useless to me.

Thanks,
Mike

  1. Inject V3s head morphs. 2. Spin the dials to create your charcter. DO NOT spawn morphs or use other morphs than V3s default head morphs. 3. Save the character as a face file. (I.E. a pose file that includes the morph channels of the head) 4. Load V3RR 5. Apply the face file for V3 to V3RR. &. Save your V3RR character. (If you want spawn a new morph) Again, this only works with the DAZ default head morphs, as the morphs in V3 as well as V3RR have to have identical names for this to work. Basically all you are doing is that you transfer the dial values from V3 over to V3RR. not the morphs itself. Could do the same by writing down the dial settings of V3 and manually transferring them to V3RR. It does not work for characters that were made with custom morphs, or if you already spawned a new morph from V3s dial settings. stahlratte

Just to make it clear, this wont work with a V3 that has any morphs injected other than DAZ default head morphs. What you need are the original DIAL SETTINGS that were used to create your V3 character in the first place. If you already deleted that file because you spawned a new morph of it to create an injection pose, youre out of luck. stahlratte

Thanks stahlratte... I suppose the problem is that I am trying to copy the body morphs. The head morphs in the original character are inconsequential, and as I had hoped to use the RR version in long shots, they aren't as important as the body morphs. The body morphs in the RR version appear to have the same names as those in the regular V3, though there are less of them. Odd that the head morphs would work but not the others.

Oh well... so much for using the RR characters. At least I'll be able to free up some space in my runtime.

Hmm, I see no reason why it should not work for the body, too. But again, youd need to know the exact dial settings for the V3 bodymorphs, and only those morphs can be transferred that appear in both V3 as well as V3RR. If all else fails you still can transfer the dial settings by hand one by one. stahlratte

If you are just usning the DAZ body morphs then you should be able to select your V3 character's body and copy and then selct the V3RR's body and paste. This worked for me in P6. If your V3 character is using morphs that aren't in V3RR you could use the Tailor (available at DAZ) to add the missing morphs into V3RR, provided that you have the tailor.

A simpler way to copy is to do literally that: Load both V3 and V3RR into the scene. Inject V3 and set the morphs to what you want. Open the Animation Palette. Expand both V3 and V3RR if they aren't (you need to be able to see all the body part names). Select V3's BODY, then hold down shift and select the rest of her. Keeping shift held down, click again on one of V3's body parts. Hit CTRL+C Select V3RR in the same way, making sure that shift isn't held down when you first select her, so you are selecting ONLY V3RR. Once all of V3RR is selected, hit CTRL+V. This should copy all morph settings from V3 to V3RR, including full body morphs.

If you have an INJ pose file for the character, it may work after a slight edit. The ones I have checked have a huge number of readscript lines at the beginning, including one produced by INJ Pose Builder, between the Version Number block and the "actor BODY" line. Delete those readscript lines... (Pause to check) Yes, that seems to work. I wonder if the readscripts, by reading in the deltas for the full-resolution figure, replace the built-in deltas and break stuff.

Thanks everyone... these are all great suggestions, but none of them worked. The good news is that now I know why. Thanks to AntoniaTiger, I peeked inside the INJ pose file and discovered... I had made custom morphs for the figure, none of which of course are in the RR version. Sigh... of the dozens of figures to choose from, I picked one of the few that did not use DAZ morphs. I'm still kicking myself for not realizing this sooner.

Next step, I suppose, is to copy the custom morphs to the RR version using Tailor or Morph Manager (any recommendations which would work better here?). Then, I will try the previous suggestions again. I do hope that V3 and V3 RR share the same mesh.

Morph Manager will only copy exact deltas, which won't work going from V3 to V3RR, since they have different polygon structures. I have no experience with the Tailor, so I don't know for sure, but I do believe that is one of its uses.
