Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 10 5:41 pm)
I believe it was determined that if poser 6 was not the last poser you installed then the sr2 installer fails to install. yes, even if you tell it where poser 6 is. most people have been re running sr1 then running sr2 and it will install. you could try that and see if it works for you.

We are confident that we have found the problem in the SR2 updater, and have posted a revised version that allows you to properly locate the Poser 6 application even if the registry has been changed by the installation of an earlier Poser version. Any Poser 6/Windows user who has had difficulties with SR2 should revisit the e frontier Updates and Documentation site above and download and run this revised updater. It may still be necessary to manually locate your Poser 6 installation, but once this is done the update will proceed normally. As ever, if you have difficulties with Poser, don't hesitate to contact e frontier Technical Support. Regards, e frontier Tech SupportAs of 24 hours ago of this posting (mine), I downloaded the SR2. Would that be the updated one ? Because it sure didn't find my non-default location for Poser 6. I solved the problem myself by doing clean install on another hard drive, did content update there, did SR1 update, then SR2 update. Then copied everything over to my working location for my operational Poser 6 on other hard drive. The SR2 installer still looks for the default Poser 6 location as of download 24 hours ago.

I believe it was determined that if poser 6 was not the last poser you installed then the sr2 installer fails to install. yes, even if you tell it where poser 6 is. Ah... that could be the problem. I had to re-install Poser 4 a few months ago (which was after I installed P6). Maybe this is what confused the SR2 installer. I solved the problem myself by doing clean install on another hard drive, did content update there, did SR1 update, then SR2 update. Then copied everything over to my working location for my operational Poser 6 on other hard drive. Maybe I'me being crazy, but installing a SR shouldn't include having to re-install the application and going through all kinds of work-arounds. You should install the patch, the patch patches the application, and you're done. Anyway, this version of SR2 installed fine. It allowed me to manually find Poser 6 and installed itself. I found an issue already... though I don't think it's Poser's fault: When I added V3 and the V3 Catsuit to the scene, Poser said "The figure name is already in use. Changing to a new name". This is because DAZ was too lazy and named both figures "Figure 1" instead of "V3" and "V3Catsuit". So instead of adding them to the scene as "Figure 1" and "Figure 2", Poser thinks they're both "Figure 1" and shows an 'error' message. --John

princessmiyu2, could you please clarify what you mean with "not working"? Even with the latest version, you still might have to point the installer to the right location. That is needed when the information where Poser 6 is installed is not accessible to the installer (for example, because an older version of Poser was installed in the meantime, or the folder with Poser 6 got moved). Once you point it to the right location (by double-clicking on the folder that contains Poser.exe, so that the path shows in the text field above), it should work fine.
Installation working fine.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

I just want to say that Poser 6 SR2 is working fine for me, despite my circuitous method with the first version of the installer. Also, I had a bit of a scare when I couldn't get one of my favourite products to work in P6 SR2 - a bunch of commercial MAT pose files. After 3 hours of testing with Poser Artist and DAZ Studio,I figured it was not a broken P6 SR2, but a broken bunch of MAT pose files ! I re-installed those and now, everything's fine. I'm happy.

I downloded the latest version of SR2, and it didn't find Poser 6, even when I pointed to it. In the end, out of frustration, I reinstalled Poser 6, and SR2 worked. But SR2 only finds the latest REinstall of Poser 6. So I reinstalled Poser 6 in my other two install locations. Hey, eFrontier, why not FIX this?! And don't give out false info, causing us to waste our time re-downloading SR2.

jerr3D, guys- If you're having problems with SR2, please get in touch with us here at Tech Support directly- these forums are great places to trade ideas and tips and whatnot, but we need our customers to contact us directly if there are problems, rather than relying on forum posts for support. FWIW, the SR2 that's currently up on our site has been tested with registries that point to previous Poser versions and, as long as the user properly locates their current Poser 6 installation as described in both the ReadMe and the FAQ that we've posted (http://www.e-frontier.com/article/articleview/1616/1/595/) the currently-posted SR2 updater will properly update Poser 6 to 6.0.2.118 regardless of where it has been installed. The current SR2 updater doesn't rely on the registry for the exact reasons posted above by Irish, JHoagland and tyger_purr; an exhaustive search for Poser 6 installations across all available volumes would slow the updater down considerably, and could cause confusion if multiple installations were present, so SR2 prompts you to locate your Poser 6 installation by default. I just finished downloading SR2 for Poser 6... and like so many people, it didn't install. When I ran the installer, it asked me locate Poser 6. I then manually browsed to my "D:GraphicsPoser6" folder. But, the installer didn't like that, so it said "Poser 6 not found. Installation failed." Now, why did the installer even ask me where Poser 6 was? If this is an upgrade, shouldn't it look in the Windows Registry to find the location of Poser6.exe? SR1 worked that way and I was able to install it just fine. Or does this installer look in the Registry for ANY entry for "poser.exe" and uses the first entry... even though the entry may be Poser 4 or 5. Then, when the installer tries to patch "Poser", it fails because it's not "Poser 6". Or, does the installer assume you have Poser installed in the default folder of c:program filesCurious LabsPoser6, and if it's not there, the installer fails. Overall, I don't mind not being able to install it. Poser 6 works fine and I've gotten used to its little glitches. I'm not sure I want to "patch" something that works fine, only to have this patch possibly create additional problems. On the other hand, is this another case of something being rushed into release before it's 100% ready? Will SR2.1 be a fix for this patch? Hopefully SR2.2 won't have to fix an issue with SR2.1. --John
