Subject: uv mapping a prop?

Okay I know this has been asked (at least I'm pretty sure) but how on earth do you map the props? Especially now that clothing is a dynamic prop with p5 and 6? I just want to make a texture and can't figure out for the life of me how to map the prop!! I tried exporting as obj but must be doing that wrong too lol. I've been looking for a tut as well but sure could use a point in the right direction. TIA p.s I'm using uv mapper (not pro)

Well, exactely how to do it depends on the prop in question. Usually, you'd use planar maps for clothes. Or possibly cylindrical (for stuff like sleeves and (sometimes) skirts. You're doing it sorta right by exporting the obj, but remember that you must point the pp2 to that NEW obj, or Poser won't know you've done something to it. That's probably your problem :o) But... the dynamic clothes in P6 should allready be UVMapped. Is what you want a template? Then just open the obj (probably disguised as a obz) and save the template in UVMapper. Do not change anything, and you will be ale to use the textures from your new template on the existing prop :o)

If it's a .pp2 that has embedded geometey, UVMapper will read it and create a template just like it will for a standalone .obj file. As long as you don't change the mapping, you should be able to save the template and use it as if. In Windows, you can just drag and drop the .pp2 ontothe UVMapper window. Same goes for hair (.hr2) files, UVMapper will extract the embedded geometry and create the template. If you change the mapping, then you're going to have to save the .obj and import that into Poser and resave as a prop. I imagine exporting as an .obj from Poser will accomplish the same thing but it seems easier to me to let UVMapper extract the geometry.

Check your textures folder, as there may already be a template for the item you want to paint.
