Subject: Texturing

Hi, I have a question about texturing in D|S. I know some of the sets have presets you can load for applying the textures that are included, but others don't appear to. Like I am looking a the milbaby and don't see a texture preset. The only way I see is to apply the textures manually w/ the surfaces tool, selecting multiple surface where applicable. Is there another way I might be missing? I guess I can then save that as a preset.Didn't see it in the manual and like to know if I am missing something.:)

The Millennium Baby do you mean the new one? doesn't have D|S-type materials presets. If you have a Poser Runtime setup in the default position inside the D|S Content folder, there are Poser-type MAT settings for the surfaces, morphs, etc. That's where the installer will put them unless you specified somewhere different.

Do you have a Poser Runtime in your Content palette, or only the D|S Content folder? If you don't have both, you can add it in Preferences and D|S will be able to find the new MATs.

Older products may not have mat files. If you are using the old Millennium baby (as opposed to the new Mil baby 3) then that may be an example. In some cases you will find that someone made a free set of mat files for the base textures - whether that would be the case here, and whether they'd still be available if so, I don't know.

Thanks. It was the new milbaby. I did find the mat files under poses(for p4 and PP looks like ). I was looking for other presets like some others I have.

That's good, it means the stuff installed properly. Don't forget to use PP MATs (or P5 or P6) in preference to P4 MATs if you have them. This is because any bump maps pointed to in the P4 MATs will be in P4 .bum format, while all the other MATs will use the more standard .jpg format.

If all you have are P4 MATs, the easiest fix is to check if the Texture folder includes the bumps as .jpg pics (all ready for auto-converting by P4). If you have, just open the MAT files in a text editor and change all the .bum file path names to .jpg as easy as that.

And while you're at it, check the file paths themselves. They should all start with ":Runtime:Textures:..." but some leave it off, and some leave off the ":" at the beginning. Both glitches can cause long delays while D|S searches for the proper files in your Textures folders.
