DAZ|Studio F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 3:44 pm)
No need to uninstall anything just reinstall DAZ|Studio over the top of the existing program and click on "yes" when it asks if you want to uninstall the previous version first. One thing you should do first, though, is get the new installers for all your plugins. and remove the old ones. Don't just re-install, there are new installers to be downloaded that will work in v1.2 reset your downloads, and the freebie plugins can be got from the DAZ freebie page as usual.
Don't forget your StudioContentdata folder is also vital this is where D|S stores all the geometry and morph info for all the D|S-format scenes you save, converted from Poser format. If you delete or corrupt this folder then you will be unable to load saved scenes properly. So if you're shuffling the Runtime folder out of the way, better do the same for the data folder. There is a way to rebuild a munged data folder, but its a pain in the neck and only works most of the time. One thing to note: this folder is huge with hundreds of thousands!!! of folders and files, so if you're copying it somewhere else, make sure there's room... BTW, simple re-installation shouldn't affect the Runtime or Data folders. I always leave them alone. But if you want to take that little bit extra precaution, go ahead. An extra backup never hurts. =)
If your data folder gets corrupted (mine did). All you have to do is make new scenes and save them; and it should rebuild the items in the data file. Also; when doing this; you do not have to recreate each scene. All you have to do is import each character with it's props and morphs etc into 1 scene and save it. (i.e. open a new scene and put 10 or so characters and/or props in it and save it as new_fix_1. Then do itr again with others as new_fix_2 etc. When finished open your old scenes to see if they work ok then delete all the new_fix scenes. Britt
Thank you all, I downloaded the new version and it seems to work quite well. I have yet to monkey with the added features to any extent. I did notice the color widget now has coordinates - which I agree with. Also, the null node button is a good added feature to be on top of the interface. I'll be digging in further at another time.... Thanks again.

Question for you folks - I received the updated DAZ studio notification. Actually a couple of questions - do I have to delete all of my installed content that I keep in my DAZRuntime folder (please tell me no) as well as if not - if someone has an idea of what the best method of removing the old version and installing the updated one (without deleting all my installed content - if I can move/rename it I would be most satisfied) - I would be most grateful. For your consideration - I thank you.
