Really? Oh cripes. I'd really like to know why I'm never included on these insider forum memos. Thanks drac. Perhaps we can embarrass him enough to respond? It is ever so tempting. ;) arry

Zhann, I'm already checked "yes", but thanks for the tip. Might help someone else. ;)

I was just joking about being left off the top secret insider Bryce forum memos. Makes me wonder if you're supposed to have a secret decoder ring that maybe only the Rendergods are allocated?

But I did check to see if AS was online last night when I sent him that IM. I mean he's even in the same city (and therefore timezone) for criminy's sake.

drac - I seriously doubt your work here is ever done.
Didn't you know you're the current designee of overall forum frivolity and insanity?

Sorry, sorry. (checks for boot bruises)

From what I believe you are referring to;

The ability to link to your gallery, or a specific picture, or your artist page and have a non-member view it from a link is on the blink, literally. It's blinking on and off.

It's all a part of the changes that are being made prior to more PHP switch overs, etc.

The staff is going over all this. We also like being able to send someone a link, and them being able to at least see a specific pic without having to be a member, or to not be logged in.

More on this as I hear it come down from the top.

Cool beans and it's nice to see AS is still alive and surviving in this odd place on the map we fondly refer to as "smogangeles". But the other thing I was asking is what is the proper way to show a link here, say to a topic, without giving your log-in ID? I've read there's some trick to this and would really rather not give someone the keys to logging in here as me.....if you know what I mean. ;) What part of the link are you supposed to leave out?

http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=107&Form.ShowMessage=2562123 Obviously you need the www.renderosity.com bit, the messages.ez refers to the forum script, ForumID is the Bryce forum, and Form.ShowMessage is the topic. You can even get more specific with a particular post in a topic if you like. Anything after that isn't needed. With gallery links, all you really need is the GalleryID number, for example you wouldn't need the entire link below: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1141952&Start=1&Artist=draculaz&ByArtist=Yes only http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1141952 if you just wanted to link to an image. (Drac's image because he posted recently and I could get to his gallery quickly). Mahray

Yup, exactly. What to NOT include in a url is anything after the "&" Anything after "&", will be your session ID info. AS

ariannah ( ) posted Sun, 29 January 2006 at 9:13 PM

Ah ok - now I see.....I think. If I understand this correctly, for forum posts include everything in the corresponding URL addy as Mahray listed above. But in gallery links don't include anything after the "&". Which would be slightly different then AS explained unless you only meant for gallery links? Hope I got that right. Sorry if I sound like a doofus but I know this can cause problems if you don't do it correctly.

In ANY, reapeat...ANY link you give out, no matter what area of Renderosity it goes to, do NOT include anything after the "&". AS

All of Renderosity is going PHP. It was very vaguely mentioned in Tim's fronpage interview thing, a while back. And, I've been told (over the phone) that it has been made common knowledge in the Community Forum, so I don't have to keep it secret it no more, lol. AS

What effect will that have on all those old forum links to specific threads? After all, there won't be any "messages.ez" left anymore.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 30 January 2006 at 1:03 AM

Yeah, I had discussed this before in the Community Forum, and as of right now, there is nothing definitive BUT...on (my) theory alone...I would assume any old link will go 404. Now, the old links in your Favorites won't be hard to update, it will just be a bit of a pain, as just PART of the url will have changed, and all you need to do is replace part of the url with a new word. This is how its working out with links I have in my Favorites of pages that were in the old Marketplace. But, like I said, we haven't heard for sure, it's my theory, but, I think its a very good one... AgentSmith

For instance, the old link to Bryce Backroom v1.0; http://market.renderosity.com/~bryce/index.html And, the new; http://backroom.renderosity.com/~bryce/index.html So, it will be something like that. (replace the word "market" with "backroom".) AS

I think there is a 'chain-of-command' problem here. I think you have to talk to Jan first and then she connects you to AS if she thinks you have a point worth AS's attention....

Ruben, I'll have you know I had quite a mess to clean up this morning after reading post# 26 above. Apple Cinema Displays do not look pretty in coffee spatter. Thanks ever so much. :P

Bryster - who is this mysterious "Jan" you speak of? Is she slightly off her rock? If so, then I may consider speaking to her.

AS - I hope the bruises are healing. Sorry 'bout that. I shouldn't have stolen your high heel drag shoes but drac has a way of putting folks up to things they really shouldn't).

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 30 January 2006 at 5:04 PM

haha, no need to turn green ;) You too can make it like that! All you need to do is to meet the right people and convince them that you got the skills they're looking for ;-) Oh, and look for an environment where you can be completely informal with your colleagues and preferably even with your boss. It will really benefit the good working atmosphere and help you push yourself just that little further every time again. Remember to start out formal with your clients and 3rd parties though. If they want an informal relationship they'll be the ones to show you that. But yea it's so cool, I'm learning so much this year! And the contacts I'm making all over the place... it's just great! I just got really lucky I guess. Meeting the right people was really the only thing that was previously missing in my carreer. But yea once u impress the right people things go so fast! Just last year I was wondering if I should ever expect to make 3d graphics other then just small time little things, and now I'm making all 3d animations for a television channel! Helping them design their new house style, and well basically I'm pretty much the man that makes it happen when it comes to the whole digital media pipeline. It's hard work, but once it's all done.. we're going to launch the new identity of the channel and we'll be looking more professional then many much higher-budget competitors! I'll make sure to post a thing or two about it if my boss allows me to do so ;) I'm like a kid in a candy store :-D
