Subject: Getting James 'wholly' into DAZ Studio....

RAMWorks ( ) posted Tue, 31 January 2006 at 1:39 PM · edited Sun, 14 July 2024 at 1:41 PM

I need a solution to an issue. Getting James into DAZ Studio is not an issue but getting his genitals to show is. The main obj or obz file that the cr2 or crz is pointing to (I did a conversion that unpacked the files ending with a 'z' so I've go both. Didn't seem to help all that much) points to a file called JamesHiResHipNoGen.obj or JamesHiResHipNoGen.obz and for some reason in DAZ Studio the genitals are ignored completly!! There is a drop down in DAZ Studio, under the Parameters tab for turning on the genitals but nothing shows after I select the genitals option. I really don't want to loose any functionality with James and while it's easy enough to plop a different genitial prop on to him the texture maps are off in color so that looks wrong too! It was suggested that I reload DAZ Studio and that helped a few but not me! I am running the newest DAZ Studio (1.2.0.1) Thanks for your help Richard ;-)~

The NoGen part of that I would suppose means, "No Genitals." Hence, no genitals will show up. That's what I would think is going on. Can you load a complete James character (genitals included) with an Import/.obj from the file menu?

Well as stated there is a drop down menu under the Parameters tab in D|S that should turn the genitals ON! It seems to ignore this option but then why have it present?? The problem with the import obj file is that all I'm going to get is a static prop not a fully functioning figure with bones to move and morphs which I want all that! Richard ;-)~

Well, the thing is not to import the OBJ and use it, but to make sure the genitals are actually available on the OBJ.

After you extract all the things from "z'ed" files, you have to resave the figure back to the library to get rid of the references to ".pmd" files. Any morphs that you want to be included in the new figure should be applied before the save.

Tried that too. Doesn't work. Opening in DAZ will still point to the nogen file and DAZ Studio chooses to ignore the command to show the genitals when they are selected to be "on"! :-(

When you re-save the ".cr2" make sure external morphs and compression are turned off (per picture). The size of the file should also increase substantially (up to 30 Mb if hi-res with all FBM's)

RAMWorks ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 11:22 AM

Yup, all that's been turned off the minute I got the program last year!! Message671426.jpg If the cr2 (or z) is coded to point to a nogen file though it doesn't matter what's turned off or on it's still going to point to the other file. What I want to know is if it's possible to hack the file without messing anything up to NOT point to that file and still load in the hip and genital geometry?? I tried just removing the offending file and it loaded up the figure just fine but the hip was missing and the funny thing about it was the genitals were still present as I was able to switch them on. VERY strange this nogen file. Whether it's loaded or not the genitals are OFF but without the nogen file, from what I've experienced the hip will not be present if it's not loaded!! Odd!! The "nogen" object is attached to the Hip as alternate geometry for when the "Figure-->Genitalia" is unchecked. If you remove the reference to it, there will be a hole in the hip when the figure is unchecked. The James figure works fine for me in both 1.2.0.1 and the legacy 1.0 (on a different computer). The only further suggestions I can make are: (1) Make sure all the used ".obz"'s are unzipped (2) make sure there are no references to any ".pmd" files in the ".cr2" (3) run the cr2 through the Legacy File Writer (from Netherworks Studios) to scrub P6 references like CenterOfMass, etc.

I'll give number 3 a try as it's about all I can do at this point. Guess there's a chance that for what ever reason James will be without if this won't work! :-( Oh well, not like I do a bunch of sex scenes with the Poser models but I do like to have the option to have genitals if I so desire. It's nice to know your options work and when they don't you get over it! Message671426.jpg Thanks for your help!! :-) Richard ;-)~

I use james in studio quite often with genitals on, all i did was load james in poser, be sure genitals are on, save him back to your library(with genitals on)...then when you go in studio, load the one you just saved, be careful using any james poses that came with p6, when you click the pose it will switch the hip back to gen off. Hope you get it to work, studio renders with so much more detail than poser
