Subject: speeding up p6 interface?

having upgraded to p6 in dec I find I am using it less and less because the interface is so slow. I have a 2,9 ghz comp with 1500mb ram, I dont think it should move at a snails pace with just v3 dial twisting. Is there any settings to tweak to speed it up? thanks in advance.

I run a 1.2GHz AMD with 1GB RAM, and P6 isn't slow; as far as dial twisting goes, anyway. There are delays going into the material room, and when switching back to preview after rendering, but it was ever thus. It may be an issue with your video adaptor, since P6 will use that to render the preview. Try switching between OpenGL and SreeD modes to see if there's a difference; and, as always, make sure your drivers are up-to-date.

Must agree with EnglishBob on the video card suggestions. For some reason, the SreeD mode in Poser 6 is much more stable and faster than OpenGL. Plus, yes, make certain that you have the latest video card drivers.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Dial twisting in P6 does seem to suck and I know a bunch of people have mentioned it since ti came out.

There's a file, named ImageIO_Mac.mrw in Runtime: ImageIOPlugins that can be either renamed or deleted, which seems to speed up Poser when it isn't there. I don't remember all of the details, but I've renamed it ImageIO_Mactemp.mrw and noticed at least an decrease in startup time. And I always use Fast Tracking instead of Full Tracking, and Smooth Shaded over Texture Shaded as the latter options are slower.
