I have to do some transmapping from what I understand, and I have no idea how to. Any help would be much appreciated.

What do you want to do a trans map of?

A transmap is the same as a texture map with the exception that what is colored white you will see, and what is black you will not. (gray will turn out halfway see through I believe)

And the important thing is to not only create and load the transparency maps, but to adjust the slider bars for the relevant pieces of your figure or object.

So how would I map something like hair, or pants if I don't have a texture map for it?

you can make a tex map (and transmaps too) using any paint program. if you need a template get uv mapper (steve cox has one in free stuff, go flipping through the utilities section)
