Does it seem that textures can be considered art ?and if so would there be a place for them in the art galleries of the members?ive uploaded one in my gallery and would like to have the communities input on this.Art or just textures

You know, Melvin, I may be crazy, but I DO see textures as art. Sometimes you can only appreciate the fine workmanship in them by looking at them flat, just the way they come out of the expander. I have even BOUGHT textures with no plan to use them in renders. A good example of a texture as art would be the few textures that the very talented Desdemona was able to launch here earlier this year. You did not have to render with them. Just the maps themselves were art. I'll go over and look at the texture you posted in your gallery now :)

I visited your gallery, Melvin, and all I can say is that you are incredibly talented. Wonderful, wonderful work!

Haven't decided but I will say your renderings of your Mandingo textures are terrific. Also thought the Crucifier image was outstanding work. I neglected to leave a post there, but want you to know that I thought it was really very good--I liked the concept, symbolism and the technique.

Hmm - seems to me it depends what you consider art. Is a texture expressive of anything? Or just pretty? Or just something skillfully done? I can't see myself framing a printout of a Poser texture file any time soon.

Art is hard to define - but after the amount of work and care that gets put into some of these textures I'd say they deserve recognition in their own right. Symphony's textures, for example, are exquisite - if you look at them flat you can see the care and detail used to make them. Same goes for Renapd's work. I've made scads of textures and I hope that some of them qualify as art. :) I know that at least one of my wall textures was used in an award winning pic - with just a character posed in front of it. If I hadn't spent all that time getting the texture, bump, specularity and transmap just right - the picture would have been Yet Another (TM) character study on black. With my work and the work on the figure it was good enough to hit print. (and boy was I startled to see it in a magazine rack!) Is that art or craftsmanship? hard to say. But I applaud your work anyway :) just my humble .02 :) Lyrra

Art, That your technique has taken Poser a step beyond is obvious! Where mostly everything in the gallery looks the same, posed the same, same props ect... and is considered art.......your TEXTURE stands out in its originality and talent !
