Subject: Accessing a MAT texture?

Techyman ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 12:10 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 12:58 PM

I have a project I am working on (non-comercial) and I found a texture that - with a few modifications - would be perfect, so I purchased it.  Unfortunately, the texture is in a MAT format and I can't find the the actual JPEG/GIF/TIFF that is used.  Is there anyway to access those files for modification?  This would be for an animation project and the actual files would not be distributed at any time.  The texture set copyright states that the set may be used for commercial or non-commercial projects.

Thanks in advance.

What is the texture you purchased ?
(Link if possible)

What version of Poser are you using ?

Well, if the texture is in .exe format install it to your desktop and look inside, there should be a folder called "textures."  Look at the name of the folder inside that folder, inside there will be your texture.  If you want to see where that is installed in poser, open up the poser folder hierarchy, click on runtime, then textures and find the texture folder with the name you saw earlier, and inside will be the actual texture file.

That was a little convoluted, sorry.

Just thought of something.

Are saying the file you have has the extension ".MAT" ?

If so then it's not for Poser at all.

Both 3DS Max and Bryce use a .MAT file for material presets.  3DS ones reference an outside map which is accessable, but the Bryce ones are kind of like a "roach motel" for textures (they come in but can never leave).  To the best of my knowledge, the only way to get those textures is to do a render in Bryce with the material applied on a plane.  But you might try the Bryce forum.
