Fractals F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 13 3:03 pm)
#1. "HAL" is "IBM" with each letter changed to the one before and there is an unconfirmed rumour that 9000 is the sum of the various IBM computer numbers that were in service at the time. However, in the sequel "2010", Clarke emphatically denies that HAL's name is supposed to be "one step ahead of IBM". It is, rather, short for "Heuristic ALgorithm".
#2. HAL = Holland America Line

My dear old friend, how are you? It's so good to see you. smooch
Of course I am painfully jealous of your "zen experience." I would sell my firstborn not to have to pop Valium when working with Photoshop. It sounds like you really solved your problem. And I know that you more than most understand my problems, because like me, you use fractals as a jumping off point for your art. (BTW I meant to tell you that some of your newer pieces I have just seen are incredible.)
The startup costs of a brand new, self-finance business are formidable, so I am going to have to wait a bit until I can buy the computer I not only want, but need for the business. But that's definitely on the books for this year. I told my husband if he doesn't want me in a strait jacket, he's going to have to do something to alleviate my pain. Unfortunately for him, I NEVER suffer in silence.
My big issue now are tile murals. We do six foot by six foot tile murals for clients...sometimes larger. And watching Photoshop go through the permutations of rendering these large images is horrid. Patience was never one of my virtues, and this is no exception.
So good to see you, Terry. Please drop me a note now and then.
Hugs to you,
Mindy
