where's the sneak peek at the format?

Great now im officially terrified.

If the rest of the forums are any indication, theres gonna be lots of worthless salad dressing and ridiculous asthetics and the base fuctionality is going to go right down the damn toilet - but everyone is gonna insist how bitchin it is im sure.

I guess weve all accepted that a forum that keeps track of individual read threads and includes PM alerts is just out of the question/beyond the ability of the new forum coders.

I spent a good portion of last night saving my whole gallery, thank god its small, to my local harddrive as webpages, to retain my comments, hit counts, and original layout. Not a moment too soon, I see, as I just went to my gallery and the number of views for every image is GONE.

Anybody care to take bets as to whether well ever enjoy this feature again or should we all assume its going to just never come back like the PM alerts?

I suppose on the grand scale, we should be gratefull our coders arent car designers. We would have a bunch of deathtraps out there with no headlights, no brakes, no safety belts, but everyone would be screaming from the rooftoops how great the musical horns and floor carpeting is......

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Tue, 06 June 2006 at 11:49 PM

Loganfury, are you saying you are not getting PM alerts here onsite, or are you referring to ebots?

If you are talking about onsite alerts, I wasnt aware they weren't working...but the ebots are a bit wonkers right now during the conversion..and should be back up and running fine after everything is in place.

Hi jumpstart,

I apologize for sounding like a negative broken record, but watching the changes of one of my favorite online "homes" page by page is just killing me a bit at a time.

What I was griping about is how the new poser forum (I dont frequent the other forums enough to know if the condition exists there) no longer includes the "n New Message(s)" and flashing attention icon as it used to. Im aware its still active on other pages of the site, like freestuff, etc, but im used to spending the majority of my time at this site on this poser forum page and the longer im jumping from thread to thread without leaving the forum for another site page, the longer im unaware that a PM is awaiting me. I had thought that we were told that feature was to be restored, but it never came to be and never seems to be discussed any longer so ive kind of developed a rosity-phobia that when a beloved site feature dissapears in the site changes now, its going to end up being gone for good.

Hi Logan,

PM alerts appear in the top right of the screen, just under the "Login/Logout" link.

In the front page article that Jeff linked, you'll see a note that views/comments for each image has been taken down during the conversion, as it was a large drag factor on the speed of conversion. Each image will retain all the data on ratings/comments/views.

Karen :-)

sometimes change is good, sometimes not, and the changes that are going on at Rendo are not all that good, imo...

and the whole place is as slow as it ever was.
Its near impossible to find a new thread anymore...the New Products seem to creep out of site so fast on that page, you can't even tell what's new...and they get all out of order by the creep to the top. You have to basically scroll around looking at the date it was posted...same with the threads here....and again, the icons don;t work..fix the darn things already.

And now the store changed again.

I honestly am not waiting for the gallery changes.

I don't really understand what you're saying? New products simply move down the page according to what's being released to the marketplace. We generally release 18-24 products per day. The only way to put them in a different order is by choosing the "What's Hot" link. Also the date posted is not shown on the Whats New page or the product page so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Have they been restored to the forum pages?

I run 800x600 screen resolution so I never really see the top right corner of my screen at rosity.

THIS is what im talking about, functionallity and backwards compatibilty take a backseat to illogical changes here. What about people who have failing eyesight and run 640x480?? When the alert was on the LEFT side of the screen, everyone could see the alert regardless of thier resolution. It makes NO sense to have moved it to the right and caused an issue for anyone not using the newest largest resolutions.

The site keeps making changes that clearly show that the new coding follows no logical architechtural structure. I will NEVER understand the mentality that perfects avatar capabilities before threads read capabilities in a forum. I mean I know its a friggin micacle that the site is working at all at this point, but Im just flabbergasted that the largest Poser site on the web is in this state. I really cant come any closer to how I percieve this site now than with my car anology above. This situation is just ugly :(

Yes.

Sorry you find the positioning uncomfortable :-(

Hi Karen,

Here's the deal. Say for instance, 10 new items are posted in the Product showcase forum, or here, for that matter. Someone replies to post 1, 6, 9...they rise to the top. Then 10 more are posted...obviously newer items. The first ones move farther down the list...then someone replied to post 3...it moves to the top...so pretty soon as this goes on and on, you get stuff 10 days old floating to the top, newer stuff is on page 2, etc etc...its hard to use the forums that way

Hopefully that makes sense

Ohhh I see Dave. You're talking about the forums. Post bumping was implemented following overwhelming user feedback. But if you prefer to sort a forum by order of original post date, just click on "Sort by post date" in the top right corner.

When I post my work I usually check the view count and this gives me an indication on which pictures worked and which didn't. I print these works and use Rendo view counts as a sounding board. Guess now I'm (BLANK) out of luck....oh well, what else is new.....story of my life...

KarenJ ( ) posted Thu, 08 June 2006 at 4:29 PM

Hi Gene

As explained in the front page article which Jeff linked to above, and as I also posted above to logansfury, the comment and views count has only been taken down during the conversion.

I'm sorry karen, I really should be more thorough when I read forum posts...once again the stale taste of my own foot...lol...(I apologise for my eternal skepticism... the perils of a overly healthy imagination would be my diagnosis, I fear.....) I shall attempt to be more circumspect as my shoe is a better fit for that appendage, at least I would presume so..........gene

Are new views still being tallied in the software and just not being shown? When the comment and view counts come back, will they show the views that were made during the conversion?

As far as I'm aware, yes.
I believe comments and view counts are generated on the fly.

Would you please verify that with the programmer. It wouldn't want to post any new images if the view counts aren't being tallied in the interim during the conversion. Thanks! 😄

I have posted to the programmer to please confirm, I'll let you know as soon as I hear back :-)

Here is the reply:

Yes they will.  The counts will all be correct and comment counts...Its almost like its "hidden" but still will tally anything that occurs since they "hide" it.

😄

Thanks for double checking Karen! It's comforting to know the counts will be accurate when the conversion is finished.
