Ask Eric about not drawing lines for transparent objects in Toon! Pro. He's working on an update and will need your input.

in the meantime - i render twice - with and withou lines, then in photoshop i put the lined pic in a layer above the unlined and erase on the top layer all the bits i don't need.
love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Thanks, Esther.
Before I got my Wacom tablet, I would've groaned about using that method (especially since I already thought I might have to do that), but not now! :thumbupboth:
Shonner-
Actually I was hoping Eric might peek his head into this thread here so we could exchange notes. I think I have a couple of files handy that would show that transparent object/line issue. I guess it's still too early...

I am all for any further development of Toon Pro and TOON/NPR EFX in Carrara 5 (or 6)...That was the main reason- plus DAZ's $94 cross-grade price- that got me to buy Carrara 5! For $94 Carrara 5 is totally worth it as a Toon/NPR generator for 3D models and Poser characters for me!
The main reason I finally got Poser 6 (being very happy with Poser Pro-Pack for many years) was because of Olivier's Art Materials (see link). I have been using P6 with Art MATS Vol 1- up until I got Carrara 5. Art Mats do a lot of nice effects but Carrara's Toon and NPR EFX are easier to set up and use. Plus Olivier seems to be running into Poser 6 limitations for new EFX- while Carrara 5 doesn't seem to have the same limitations I think...
I'm not sure about the transparency problems- but I'm sure they are fixable in Carrara and will be less of a hassle than doing Toon EFX in Poser 6. The main utility that actually makes Art Mat's work fairly easily in P6 is Semideu's FREE ShaderWork's program...

I only use ShaderWorks because it has an Art Materials SPECIFIC "Toon Room".The drawback of ShaderWorks is that it is Windows XP only and requires Microsoft's FrameWork to be installed on your PC. This greatly limits it usability among a wider range of people (especially MAC users).
Carrara's Toon and NPR effects are a lot easier to control and figure out- plus being cross-platform. I just hope that DCG takes a look at these links- if it can offer any new ideas for improving Toon Pro/NPR EFX in Carrara 5...
Actually, Veritas, I had gotten Carrara before "Cartoon Shaders" was released, and looking over some of the image samples for "Cartoon Shaders", I realized that ToonPro allowed me to create those cartoon effects already. Plus, if there was a Toon effect that I wanted to simulate, the people
on this here Renderosity Carrara Forum helped point me in the right direction.
They're kinda like cyberspace angels in that way...
As an example, here's a link to something Eric helped me with: http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2526663
I still use that effect in my work, as you can see in the following links:

Thanks- these are very interesting links.
BTW- I got Poser 6 ONLY because of Olivier's Art Materials- just for doing Toon EFX- and then I just got Carrara 5- because of the DAZ Sale- and THEN discovered the Toon and NPR effects that Carrara offers- wishing that I had gotten Carrara FIRST- as I really don't like using the P6 Material Room (which is where ShaderWorks was a big help...)
I brought up ShaderWorks because it applies the Art Materials to a Poser scene in a generally "one click" setup. Of course the built-in Toon effects in Carrara 5 do this as a "post effect", which is even easier! There are a few things that Art Materials does that I can't yet see how TOON PRO can do them- but I would certainly like to see more threads and discussions about this topic as I am really very interested in Toon and NPR EFX...

Does anyone know how I can get ToonPro to not draw lines around a figure imported using TransPoser?
My issue comes with stuff like Eyelashes, Eyebrows, Pupils and Nipples. If I have the ToonPro Renderer selected, the lines around these body parts appear and ruin any detail around, say, the eyes. If I'm rendering a superhero, nipple lines appear and mar the clean bodysuit I'm looking for. I often just render in Photoreal mode and make do without the lines, but I really like the way lines appear on the figures.
This also occurs when I set certain body parts or clothes to be invisible -- suddenly I have lines around invisible clothing items!
If I do Native Import of figures, it's not an issue because I can individually override the offending default settings. The problem I'm having is while using TransPoser and the way it groups imported Poser shaders. Any ideas?
Also...
I was looking at work by artists like Terry Dodson and Adam Hughes and they havea slightly thicker line around the outside of their figures. Is there a way to simulate that in Carrara without doing multiple passes and bringing the renders into Photoshop?
Thanks!
