Subject: quick questions

Suppose I have a character (like M3 or V3) with specific clothes and textures and I pose it it a specific way. Then I saved it by using File - Save as.

Then I send the .ds file to my friend who also have the character and the specific clothes, textures, and pose file.

Will it load correctly in his or her computer or will D|S show an error?

  1. To summarize, can two people share the same .ds scene file if they both have the necessary 3d items for the scene?
  2. If your answer to question 1 is yes, do the file paths matter?
For example one person in his computer has c:Program FilesDScloth.cr2 and the other person has stored the cr2 in c:DazStudiocloth.cr2

If you are both running the same version of Studio, then it's possible. And both people do need to have the exact same items or it will not load.  The file path will be important because it was saved as being able to find the items in a certain area/drive/folder on your computer while your friend may have them in a different area/drive/folder. Studio should just let you know it can't find them and they would all have to be found manually as it asks for them.

Thanks for your reply.
Have you actually tried this yourself?

Do you have a source for your answer?

You're welcome.

I've done it before transferring a scene on one computer to my other computer that can handle large scenes better when rendering.

.ds files are presets - you friend will have to load the figures, and inject any morphs, before applying them. As long as the textures used are in known Poser or DAZ|Studio content directories on both systems then there shouldn't be any missing file messages.

If you want to share a finished scene that's a .daz file - in that case, and elements that came in Poser format will have to be loaded and saved as a scene file on the destination machine to create the needed .dso mesh files in the data folder (and any morphs will have to have been injected, since they are saved in the data folder too). Anything that came in native format will not need to be loaded and saved first.
