Subject: using pictures in volumetric material ?

DominiqueBray ( ) posted Sat, 26 August 2006 at 8:57 AM · edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 4:38 PM

Hello

I am working with Vue 5 Esprit and I would like to use pictures in a volumetric material, instead of just a color. I shearched in the book and on the net but I did not find.

The aim is to make a kind of nature-monster, a bit like the one on the cover. Using real 3d trees takes long and slows down my computer very much. So I would prefer make the monster with meta balls, then fill it with foliage pictures as volumetric material.

Is it possible ?

Well you could try it out and let us know...LOL...good idea, never thought of that myself.....

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

I do not come about to use pictures in my volumetric material, I can only set a color. That is why I ask some help here. I even do not know if that is possible...

No it's not possible in Vue. The only thing you can apply an image to when using volumetric materials is fading out through the function editor and that won't do what you are looking for. Why don't you just apply foliage pics and transparency to your metablob?

Too bad it's not possible, it could have been useful.

I will try just applying foliage pics and transparency to my metablob, as you said, but I am not sure it will be beautiful.
