okay, here's the deal. linky to obj and cr2 files:

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/downloadgeek/lst?.dir=/poser&.view=l

the left boot works and conforms perfectly...right boot, not so much.

i have a pair of boots (from somewhere, can't remember) and i've remodeled/grouped them to fit M3. i load the boot into poser, check grouping, go to setup room and double click m3 blank sr1 to load bones, check fit, make sure i.k. is turned off and zero posed, edit/memorize/figure...then save to my figures library. delete boot from scene and load new boot from library...the attached pic is how it loads. it loads with i.k. turned "on" and not zeroed out. if i try and unconform, turn i.k. off and zero the pose the boot fits perfectly...when i conform it turns out like the following pic on the next post.

this is most frustrating...can someone please help me???

if the boots didn't come with a pose set, have you got one for some other boots either aiko or v3,any mill3 figure.

now if you have a pose set for some boots, you are looking for the "hide feet"  inj. if you have one of them, then select M3, then double click the "hide feet", that might make the boot line up with his feet.

if not you will have to parent them from the "figure" drop-down menu, first make the feet and toes not visable (M3), then without conforming them(if you have conformed them then un-conform them) to m3 line them up as best you can, maybe scale adjust them too if they won't fit. Then when you are happy they are lined up, click the "figure" tab at the top of poser, and "set figure parent" (right/left foot for corasponding  boot) that should work too.

too many edits oops!!!

To be able to move the feet after making them invisable you will need to select the feet from the "body parts" menu on the parametre dials.

vince, thanks for responding. however, the boots are made of three body parts (shin, foot, toe) so parenting won't work. also, the fit isn't necessarily the problem, they fit just fine when zeroed...no poke throughs. the problem occurs when they are conformed. as i said above the other boot is perfect when conformed...this one is just wacky.

i'm hoping that somebody will read this who has had a simular experience and know right off the bat what the problem is.

have you tried parenting the  boot shin(lower leg) to the m3 shin(lower leg) foot to foot and toe to toe yet? i figure you would rather mend than workaround, but was just curious.

I downloaded your files, loaded them and M3 into Poser, conformed and got the same results you did.

I then looked at the CR2 files in an editor. I knew what I was looking for but to be honest did not immediatly see the smoking gun. I'm reasonabley sure that when you zeroed and memorized the donor file or the boots CR2 you still had IK's turned on.

I then did the following:-

  1. New scene.
  2. loaded the blank M3 figure.
  3. Figure -- IK chains -- All off
  4. Window -- Joint Editor -- Zero figure.
  5. Select hip
  6. Ensure all hip translations are zero. (They were but good practice to check).
  7. Select BODY
  8. Ensure all BODY translations are zero. (They were but again good practice to check)
  9. Edit -- Memorize -- Figure
  10. Save this donor.cr2 figure back to the library.
  11. Import Boot Right.obj (No import options selected)
  12. Click Set Up Room tab.
  13. Double click the donor figure library thumbnail to apply its bones to the boot.
  14. Return to the Pose room
  15. Save the Right boot to the figure library

Repeat for left boot.

Next loaded M3 followed by both boots. Conformed boots to M3, Tested pose --- All peachy :)

If you are looking to be absolutly correct you'll need to also remove the very slight translations in the boots feet. However since they are small and do not affect these boots I would ignore it.

You may also find the third post in this thread of interest:-

Hope that helps.

you're a genius...thank you so much for responding phil. i had hoped a cagey vetern would spot this. it seems i'm having some issues over here that i would not have noticed if i hadn't followed you advice...since it works for you and not me that pointed me to what is causing my problems!

the sr2 blank that i've been using is screwed up! no matter how many times i turn off i.k., zero the pose and memorize/figure, then save to library...whenever i bring it back in the right foot is all screwed up...just like my boot was doing. my blank m3sr1 is bunk!!! ahhhhhhhhh!

so i used m3sr1 (no blank) as my donor and followed the rest of your mini-tutorial, went and rehacked my CR2's to reflect runtime/geometries/boot.obj, loaded the boots and conformed to figure and posed...woo hoo! it's all good!

however, (isn't there always one of those!) "before" conforming the boot to the feet the bottoms of the boots are fine and don't show m3's feet...but after conforming the boots m3's feet show through on the bottom...how or is there a way to fix this? the easy way would be to make m3's feet invisable...but then i'm cheating.

thanks again phil.

Glad I was able to help :)

The final bit will be to open the new boots CR2 file in an editor, and scroll to the foot section. Scroll down the channels for "translateX xTran" and in that block set "initValue" to zero. and all "k" vales also to zero.

Repeat for translateY and translateZ, the do the same for the other boot.

Have fun :)

You're welcome :)

If you do the above and the feet still show, import the boot and ensure that is correct. If its not then translate down a little and re-export the obj and use that in place of the original.
