Subject: Adding to Free Stuff

blizzard ( ) posted Mon, 18 September 2006 at 5:35 PM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 1:54 AM

I was thinking about adding a few texture items to the Free area.
I have 3 initial questions but if anyone has other thoughts on the subject or links to other threads, all replys will be most appreciated. Thanks!

Does it need to be on a server somewhere?
Or does Renderosity have space somewhwere for it?

If my Textures, though fully custom, were created using someone elses texture as a starting place is it ok to make these textures freely available? (Thorne Sylfie Skin, Sarsa Wings, Aiko Mini Dress, Cutie Pie Skirt, CC Hair). Most were created using supplied templates but others were modified using supplied textures.

If my fully custom textures are for a free product is it ok to make available or should I check with all item owners?

Many Many Thanks!
Scott

'rosity has a file locker, about 2 meg (I think). Most folks have their own site, or find some people that graciously offer to host your stuff. Planit3d has some of my stuff, so they might be interested. Ask around.

you can find places that will give you server space. The thing to be careful about is bandwidth; if you only get so much, then you'll get charged out the yingyang for excess (or shut down for a day or a week), etc.

more details following this post.

There are lots of free hosting services you can store your stuff on. Just do a google search.

If all you used to create your textures was the template that came with the original item, you're good to go. That's what the kind artist made the template for. But if you used one of their textures as a starting point, I would check with the merchant first. I doubt that it's ok to release  it.

I plan on checking with any said owners 1st but just wanted a general idea.

The real question was re; space for freebies.
File locker or some other host for storing freebies. Cool I will look into that further Thanks.

Many Thanks.

  1. I understand Poserhome hosts for free. Instructions here...
    http://www.innertraveler.com/messagecenter/showthread.php?t=1864

  2. If you use ANY part of someone elses work, you should always ask the creator first.
Not just because of copyright issues, but just common courtesy. Many creators will say yes.
    I always do.

  3. If the maps are totally original. Then you don't have to tell the creator.
But If you do you'll often find the creator will be really happy about it, and link exchange etc etc.
Or maybe even offer to host your freebie.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
