Subject: "Faking" atmospheric effects for the Poser 4 Renderer?

Peacer ( ) posted Thu, 05 October 2006 at 5:27 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 7:32 PM

To put it simply -- I cannot use Firefly.  I use Poser for animations, therefore I have to use the P4 Renderer to speed frames up (or it'd take years to finish an animation project).  I need to know if there are any tips or tutorials on how to simulate atmospheric effects without having to use Firefly?  I have the JepeZ Steams product, which works good for haze (as long as the camera doesn't move thru it).  However, in order to create the ambience I want, I need to simulate beam light -- like the light that might shine thru a window at night (not sure what else to call it).  In P4 I used to use simple props to achieve the effect, but I can't get this method to work in P6 for some reason.

Please help!  Thanks.

Nerd3d.com has a tutorial on that.  I believe it uses his P4 fog prop.  Dunno if it would work in P6.

the light type you mean is called "volumetric lighting" which i don't think you can do with the p4 renderer!

Thanks, I'll check it out.  I'm assuming you're talking about the Fog Tool Delux III which should work (don't see why it wouldn't).  I was looking at a few screenshots, and it looks like it might do the trick.  If not, it's only $12.95, and I'm sure I can find many other uses for it!

Volumetric Lighting... wow, do I feel like a total moron.  I've always known that, but for some reason I had a major brain seizure and couldn't come up with a term.  Must be my 3D Modeling class...

Anyway, I know it can't be done with the P4 renderer, which is why I want to "fake" the effect -- as in using props to create fairly close results without resorting to the Firefly renderer.

If anyone else has any pointers, please let me know.

i have a pointer, i use P4 exclusively. Go to the "other" rosity site (the adult one) and do a search on my name. The title of the piece is "Before The Breech". There I simulated light rays piercing the water and i explained how i did it too! : ) hope that helps!
