I don't think there's any way to turn off the highlighting itself, short of editing the config file. (It's plain text, I believe, so you can do it.)
Also, you'd be better off growing the hair on a skullcap rather than on the head of the figure. (There are various free skullcaps out there, or you could use the ones that come with the P6 dynamic hair props - just delete the hair that's already on them.) That way, you can save it to your library and use it with other figures.
Thanks again randym
Will try out some of your suggestions, particularly with the config file suggestion. Guess I was shooting for something else though. I tried a moustache tut, and had such a problem getting the region shaped the way I wanted, and to top it off, the tool chose to grow hair in a most unusual place, because the outline for the face with gums and teeth, kept getting in the way, LOL..

I'm just beginning to understand how the hair room works, but there's an irritating problem which slows me down. When the mouse moves over an object, it highlights that object, allowing you to click on it. I find that in the hair room, this feature gets in the way when you're trying to create a new group. Is there a way to turn this off so you can define the hair regions/groups? I didn't see anything in preferences.
