Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 08 9:27 am)
Hi, ragnar.
Just to expand on what Miss Nancy said, Poser's magnets work by affecting the existing vertices of the underlying geometry. They can't (directly) affect edges.
Switch to a wireframe view to see the way the object (or part of it) is made up. Vertices show up as the "points" where lines (edges) meet.
Lines (edges) cannot be affected by magnets, only the vertices (points) where they join are affected.
Hope that helps (and that I'm not telling you anything you already know)
Cheers,
Diolma

Did you know that DAZ has a martian tripod in the PC? (see link)On the other hand the martian machines in the original movie didn't have legs. In that case you could just make the spider's legs invisible.
Check the legs' properties panels. In all likelihood, the author has disabled the Bend option to simulate mechanical joints. Unfortunately, this also makes the body part immune to magnets and other deformers.
You can temporarily re-enable the Bend option, magnet the heck out of it, and create morphs, if necessary.
..and the reason they didn't have legs in the original movie was that the special effects weren't up to realisitic legs at the time (maybe stop motion, but the producers didn't go with that)..;) more useless facts from Pakled..;) Actually, I think you're referring to the '50's version (George Pal?) wouldn't be surprised if there were versions previous to that, tho.
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I did a quick search and the 1953 movie is the oldest I could find. I did find a neat site with blueprints for the 1953 war machines though. :)

HI all,
I have recently purchased Daz Robospider. What I'm trying to do now is to deform its legs so that I get something like a "martian warmachine" like in the original war of the worlds movie..
Unfortunately the leg segments (composed by thigh, knee, shin and foot) don't have "scale" morph. I tried to apply a magnet on the shin but it won't work, while magnet work fine on other figures parts, like "James" head.
Could it be that some figures are locked or am I doing (probably) something wrong?
Thanks for your help.
