Quote - if you see a nice thumbnail or banner ad would the name influence whether you look any further or buy the product ?

The name doesn't mean anything to me. What matters is the look of the character morph and texture and the quality.
All a character name means to me is that it was named instead of being referred to "V3 character addon no. 253758674-6079" which would be kind of hard to locate in the MP, hehe

LOL well I just find that once my character has a name, he or she becomes more interesting and has a personality.
I have a new one in the works and was asking hubby what he thought for a name which is really like askin' a blind man for directions LOL..bless his cotton pickin' lil socks :) ...and I suddenly thought, well, do they really care what she's called and thought I would ask the question.

ahhhh, i understand your question better by your last response.
i'm an artist and a musician. and weather i'm drawing or playing, yes...it does make a difference. but only in the sense that it makes a difference to me as i'm creating. it makes no difference if i'm purchasing. i only purchase what suits me.
i could create a scene that dispalys a,b, and c. but in my mind that scene is the result of that character having gone through e,f,h,j,k, and l. though you might not see it and the scene might not depict the latter...a,b, and c is the result of having endured e,f,h,j,k, and l. the same for a song, there has to be a story behind the focal point...otherwise it really isn't real. and you can't fully portray what you are meaning to. each of my characters has a name and a limited history.
does that make sense? is that what you meant?

I think a name can definitely have a positive or negative influence on my first perceptions of a product. If a product is really great, I can get past the name... but if there was a product that I couldn't make up my mind about, and if it also had a name that I personally didn't like for one reason or another... I probably wouldn't buy it.
Funny thing that in real life I had an Angela ruin my life..... I was taken when you wrote that....
I would buy an angela product . I would think of them but I would not let that stop me from buying if the product is good..... I guess some people might just steer away from certain names... but in this business you are flooded with human likenessess and names... I would not think prejudice on that level could actually mean a mark down of a product...
A string of figures under some strange name might keep some people from quickly diving into buying it..... But.. they will probably ask around.. If its a good product it will sell it self.. How much do I need it,,,,, sell me.. tell me I need it...

I'm a guy, and the answer is a qualified Yes.
That is, certain female names grab me immediately. Usually they are names of old girlfriends, or names of girls I've know that I thought were very sexy (or both!).
If I see these names - anywhere, on TV, wherever, even on a V3 package in the marketplace - I will at least for a moment or two notice them.
Enough to make me buy, or even click on the thumbnail? No. They have to look good in the thumbnail for me to check them out further. Just like in real life....
Interesting question!
Yes, it makes a big difference to me.
I would be very put off buying a figure with a name like Colin, Kevin, Barry, Wayne, Roger, Justin, Julian, Tarquin (all "geek", "chav" or "posh idiot" names here).
Women's names tend to be usually picked more carefully but I've seen some non-English vendors using some very strange names. I saw one called after a medication once... non-intentional I'm sure, but it made me laugh when I saw "Canesten for V3" on the thumb

I don't pay attention to the names. They would only serve to remember the product and 98% of them don't stand out enough to be memorable for me, especially when you get into the attempts at fantasy sounding ones. OTOH, I'll always remember RDNA's wet skin texture 'Beach Baby,' catchy and it describes the product.

On one hand linkdink did not say what about names that bring bad memories... so we don't really answer the question...
On the other hand karen1573 made me laugh with all those dorks she dumped somewhere in outer space....... But I don't believe her when she says she would'nt by a product with a geeks name.... I think if she needed a figure and found it... but had a geeks chauvinist name to it.. she buy it,,,,
true or not true.....
I hope you don't add my name to your list.... but then who would name a figure tom271....

I know that a thumbnail image or a banner ad will draw you to look further if it's appealing but how much does the name mean to you ?
For instance, you hafta know that Grizelda ain't pretty LOL. but if you see a nice thumbnail or banner ad would the name influence whether you look any further or buy the product ?
This might seem like a silly question but I'm curious. I mean we all have a "mindset" about certain names. If you went to school with someone who was a complete loser or double butt ugly, when you come across that name later in life, you immediately have a mental picture and I'm wondering if and how that would affect what you buy ? I mean, if you knew an "Angela" and she nigh on ruined your life, would you buy a character called Angela that would haunt your Runtime forever ? LOL.
So go ahead and laugh at me....I can take it LOL.
