can anyone direct me to any ( free) skull or skeleton models, I can download as  3D obj. files

thanks all!! cheers! ~ zoren

Is this for use in Poser? If so, why not use Poser's skeletons?

CaptainJack1 ( ) posted Fri, 24 November 2006 at 6:52 PM

3D Total has one, but it's in 3DS format, so you'd need to convert it. Greylight has one rigged for Poser that you might be able to use... those usually come with the model in OBJ format.

thanks for the reply, Poser skeletons have no details such as the teeth, and some bone shapes are not realistic enough( finger bones etc.) for what I need. I guess I'm looking for more realistic as opposed to stylistic.

thanks and cheers!! ~ zoren

I'll hunt around and see if I can find some then. :)

zoren ( ) posted Fri, 24 November 2006 at 7:07 PM

thanks, **Teyon..... I use a Mac Os, it shouldn't make a difference if it is a simple 3ds obj. file.

hey Teyon, tried both of those sites....... thanks.

"daemon'  has a skeleton but same as poser no details (teeth etc.)
'mirimar' only for 3dsmax program.... ( couldn't see exactly what they had though.)

thanks again for trying to help me, I appreciate it.

3d total has great stuff but, alas no great skeleton........thanks, **CaptainJack1
**still checking greylight posso....

cheers   ~ zoren

Turbo Squid has one here, and another here; they're both free and in 3DS format; they might be closer to what you're looking for.

zoren ( ) posted Fri, 24 November 2006 at 9:15 PM

I'm really sorry...! I didn't mean like a 3ds max obj, but just a straight 3d obj. file that can be used in Bryce, Vue, Poser etc.....I'm sorry if I gave the wrong indication.

thanks man, I mean it.....sorry for the confusion.... interestingly enough, I got a 3DS model from 3D Total ( a mech fish), into the Vue program? but could only download it in pieces.

thanks,   ~ zoren

CaptainJack1 ( ) posted Fri, 24 November 2006 at 9:50 PM

Hmm... I don't know about Bryce or Vue (have the former but haven't used it yet, and don't have the latter) but I know that Poser can import a 3DS file (as well as OBJ, LightWave, and a couple of others). As far as I know, Bryce, and Vue should be able to import those formats, too. Of course, if the file has a .MAX extension, then nobody but 3D Studio Max can import it; for whatever reason, somewhere along the line those lovely people decided to make their format proprietary. *sigh

When you say that you could only download it in pieces, do you mean that it came from the web site in pieces, or it separated into multiple objects in Vue? A lot of 3D files contain multiple groups of polygons, and some import programs bring those groups in as separate objects.

zoren ( ) posted Fri, 24 November 2006 at 10:06 PM

yes, It came in groups of separate objects...... I have done a couple more of the 3DS in Vue but they are a bit glitchy, some will work, some won't at all..... I have'nt tried to download into Poser yet. I'm getting a bit side tracked but lov'n it!. still need a very realistic 3d skull that works... hard to find?

CaptainJack1 ( ) posted Fri, 24 November 2006 at 10:13 PM

Free ones are, I'm afraid. I've got a pretty nice set that I bought from DAZ; I think that set lists for about sixty dollars, plus about twenty for the nice textures. You might give the Mystic Nights search engine; it's awfully thorough. Also, there's a nice collection of free model sites that you could sift through at 3D Links; you might find something there, too. 😄
