Subject: Skin and Hard edges....

Hi,

I was wondering if while I've been absent from the poser scene, if anyone worked out a way to get rid of that hard edge you get on skin. you know how the edge of fingers or the ears, nose etc have a hard crisp edge to the render, just look at any of my portrait images in my gallery.

for me, its the final problem that needs to be overcome in order for poser to render really good looking skin.

Attached Link: TUTORIAL : How to achieve more realistic skin textures in Poser 5

I'm no expert, but you may want to check the link for information from someone who is. ;) My own inclination would probably be to use post work rather than render intensive shaders, but that's just because my computer is slow.

You can also check the tutorial in the aery soul forum:

There is some nudity, but that's hardly unavoidable with a good skin tutorial.

This tutorial only apllies to the shader, but proper lighting and rendersettings are also important. I think there are some threads in the same forum about this issue.

I took a look at your gallery but I don't believe I can you anything new: outstanding great work, I can hardly believe that you're not satisfied about it.

thanks for the compliment, Im glad you like some of my stuff.

I am happy with the outputs I can achieve now. and my "skin so soft" shader (released with eve) did a fantastic job of getting rid of the hard edges, but the technique was not compatible with any of my more complex and realistic shaders, which was a shame.

part of the problem is that in real life, your body is covered by tiny white hairs. these hairs reflect the light and, when viewing skin on an angle, they soften up the edge (that plus true SSS give the skin a soft look)

it still amazes me that poser could be up to version 7, and still not have real SSS, its a character program! what are you thinking E Frontier?

whats worse is they seem to have removed the module function of the firefly engine, so you can create your own custom shader nodes (or use any that are available on the internet for other incarnations of firefly)

/rant over LOL

I like the samples you made with your beautiful skin shader. Personally  I think it's better than face_off's realskinshaders, which is too freckly to me. Is it  available for buying cause I couldn't find it in your store. I've took a look a the new skinshaders E-frontier made for Sydney, but I'm wondering if anyone there has a notice about SSS. They haven't changed anything in the material-room (at least not worth mentioning)
I'm not saying that I'm a great shader expert, but I like to try things out now and then.
