Hey we are all friends here!!!

No bashing V4 or P7 (we all have had our chance!)

Okay, I'll start.

Wow are there all a lot of creative people here!

Okay, so I'm the only one so far.

Does anyone use Hexagon to create thing for Poser?

Maybe something more philosphycal:

Has anyone here found out through forums that we can all live in harmony?

(Yeah, well, I said I was drunk!)

Okay, can anyone forgive a pornogrher for his/her past?

Okay forget that.

Whatever, talk amounst yourselves, I'll join in after I have awoke.

No, let's see if I can contribute anything useful.

I can create a MAT file in Poser.

I can show you the basics in a good Poser skin set up.

Go to my gallery, ask me how I did something I will tell you.

Oh, hey, just trash me for starting a useless forum post!!!!

HEy, anyone buy Carrara Pro, since the sale at DAZ?

I decided to upgrade from Carrara 5 to Carrara 5 Pro.  Get this, I bought C5 during their first dale, so with a Platinum Membership I bought P5 plus Transposer for 99 bucks!

Now I bought (with my Platinum MemberShp) C5 Pro for another 107 ( or about)buckss (American, cuz we all live out of the US, but they set the rates, whatever that means, cuz I'mfirneds with many Americans.)

Anyway, that comes out to just over 2000 bucksa for C5Pro, not bad, considering the retail is 550ish.

BUT!!!  Right now, you can get C5 Pro for under 140 if you are Platimnumun(Hey, I'lll spell it right when I am sober!!!) mewmber.  That is an Uber excellent Deal!!!!

My Advice is take advantage of it!!!

Even, PLUS the Platinum Membership, it is still A Deal.

Do the research, call a friend, I'm drunk, don't take my workd for it!!!

So, what can Carrara do that P& can't?

Well, it is morestable.

It allows you to brag that you are using a mid-grade 3D application as opposed to the entry level application that everyone knocks.

Oh, hey, if you are poor DAZ STUDIO users:

  1. What are you doing in a POSER forum!?

  2. Why didn't you buy BRYCE (which also is an exceptionally fine program.)

  3. HEY! if you spend as much as someone who bought POSER, you could be making awesome pics anywya with the plug ins!!!!!

YES, I have no shame.

  • HEY, everyone here is my friend in my books, agree with me or not!!!

Okay, this post has gone on long enough!

kierab ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 8:41 AM

LOL Thromm, pass the punch!!! I don't know about V4 but Kiki rules and P6 is the best poser out there right now. :-)

ThrommArcadia ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 8:51 AM

I'm still babbling!!!

Okay, let me use this as my drunken soap box!!!

I have read a bit, so I know the majority of people who post here are over 30!  Heck, I'm willing too submit that majority is over 50!!!!!!

My roommate has a big thing against "baby boomers" (control of money, etc...) I' fascinated that I have met and am friends with so many people who fall into that age category!!!  I love that I have spoken with people of different cultures, ages and races then myself.

I think this is the beginning of world peace!!!

Am I crazy?

We have met in art.

(A great beginning)

We can share our thoughts despite language.

(I regularily get and read posts by someone who does not speak english (Mickeyrony) who is so wonderful and supportive.)

I'm getting old, but this is incredible!!!

We are all from different countries and political backgrounds, yet we meet and dscuss thing of similair interest.

Well, I'm to drunk to tell you about the amazing implications of this, but just realize, that this is where world peace begins  We are all friends.

Why can I not be friends with more people of different backgrounds?

Hey, yes I'm drunk, but I am also a big, peace-nick.

Okay, shuttting up!!!

Peace, Love,

Dan

We musta been typing at the same time. Have you used Second Life yet? I am dying of curiosity as to whether I can use poser to create my online avatar. I know you can import motion scripts from Poser to SL but i am having trouble finding exact info. There appear to be people making money creating and selling things in the SL universe. That sounds like just my cup of tea. I just have to figure out where to start. I just bought the C5 Pro package (only $124 bucks!) so now I really do have to start making some models. I think I may start with some items for Kiki, since she's my fave but nobody seems to be developing for her much. I have Hexagon and D|S but they seem so clunky to me, C5 too for that matter. I think I am spoiled by having started out 3D in Poser and Bryce 1.0 way back when (and now, of course). Poser and Bryce are just so much more slick and intuitive to me. I am really going to have to work to wrap my head around the non-intuitive way of doing things. If I keep up like this though I am going to HAVE TO UPGRADE my Mac. I am really jonsing for a MacPro tower and one of those Wacom Cintiq tablets... I am holding out until March, when I expect that Apple will announce the new 8 processor MacPro based on the new Intel chips just announced. Now all I have to do is start saving my pennies!

Thanks for the compliment. beam The internet is an amazing place. I met my hubby in an IRC chatroom over a dozen years ago and we have been going strongly ever since. It's not on the level of world peace but it has brought peace to my world. :-) I find it interesting that the posters in this forum are older. I wonder at what it really means... Are we all richer and less impatient? Are the youngsters all out there in Second Life living their avatars rather than turning them into an art form? Hmmmmm.....

sweetpegster ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 9:00 AM

ok i will join in, I have Hexagon, still in the learning phases, I keep saying Im gonna start a thread begging for a buddy to help me threw this learning curve. Ya know someone you can bug the hell outta and they actually like to help you. Someone not afraid to yap on an IM. I have all these idea running around in my head scattered, have no idea how to gather them up..

Since seeing the C5 thing, I wondering should i max my credit card out?? what are some of the difference between Carrara and Hexagon? I have found Hexagon easy to move around in.  I would have to join the platium club for this as well, but the price is really appealing. so if someone wants to give a rundown on the differences before i Max out the ol card that be wonderful.

ThrommArcadia ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 9:04 AM

@ kierab

I have not had any expereince with "Second Lif"  My work style worries me, since I usually work 3 weeks on, 2 weeks off, but wny where forma year on to 6 months off, I wrry icoudl reallly ge addicted to "second life".

Still, I think you should go for it and wee if you can make a buck!!!

There is nothign wrong with trying, and since P& decided to hole their release party online with Seconf LIfe, there must be a way to transfer what you have learn thas far!!!

GO FOR IT!!!

You  do such wonderful cute thigns in real world (digtial art) that you could only possibly add something positive to teh "artificial" world!!

We all need to laugh and we all need to stop and enjoy the simnple things.  Remind people of that !!!

kierab ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 9:08 AM

Pegster, I have not figured out all the differences between Hex an C5 so I'm afraid I am not much help there. You can get the Carrara basic for $6 bucks if you are a Daz PC member ($9 if you aren't). As I understand it the basic program is a slightly limited version of C4. You could always try that and then decide if you need more umph. If you are still a beginner then that may be all the more you need until you have advanced a bit, and by then the newer version may be out. So my advice would be to not max out your card until or unless you know for sure you need the bigger guns.

ThrommArcadia ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 9:15 AM

@ sweetpegster

I'm suire others can tell you mopre, but right now, here aqre my feelings.  I've had Hex since the DAZ sale a year back and Carrrara sinc ethey got it!

I find Hex a better modeller..  Plus there are a lot of people who use Hex to model things for Poser, so ther eshould be a lot of ehp around.

I use Carrara to render.  Nothing I have ever posted, so fdar, thought!  BUT, Carrara lets you do things (like volumetirc fire) that Poset is pretty much useless for.  With C5Pro, you can take any Poser scenen into Carrara (though P 7 is buggy, but there are work arounds) and do those coolkthings.  Really useful if yo are interested  in animation.

Hex is all aBOUT modelling.  So, don't get C5 if you like modelling in Hex (my opinion, those with more experience my vary).

C5Pro can do great things, if you are willing to learn it!

It actually does terrain things better then Bryce!

But, you have to learn the features to get the full power.

(Oh, BTW, I only use Bryce or C5 for terrains, I can't even think of how to do similiar in Hex!!)

Every tool, it's place.

But, Carrara, Bryce abnd Poser were first ceveloped by the same company, so even in these distant forms, you will find a certain compatibility!.

Hope this helps a bit.  I'm going to go drink some water and lay dowm.

The stuff in SL is a lot like what you find in the galleries here. Lots of NVIATWAS sort of stuff. I joined last night with my hubby (we are so geekly, LOL) and I was GROPED in the first five minutes in the SL universe by some perve. My hubby was a bit annoyed and typed "Hey, dude, that's my WIFE". heheheh, I nearly fell out of my chair was laughing so hard! The funny thing is, the exact same thing happened to me when we first moved into Brussels (in REAL life). I guess I'm just gropable snort. Hubby thinks I could do my Kiki thing in SL and that they are probably screaming for something a little more childish in amongst all the titty bars, escort services and lingerie stores. I am going to play with that idea a bit and see what I find. I have the feeling that, as with here in the forums, the naked titties will always get more eyeballs than the cutie stuff I do. Although who knows, I might create a demand in the Japanese market since they are all about cute. Hmmmm....

Creative comes from "to create". Therefore, filling a scene with poses, light sets, props and materials you bought in some store is to be considered purchasive. Yes, I made that word up and call dibs on it.

sweetpegster ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 9:44 AM

ok i have no clue what SL is. Is it a chat program, I wont lie Im a former Palacer. I have no idea what this means NVIATWAS ??

I think I will stick with hexagon alone then and learn it best I can. I have managed to model a shirt and pants but of course have some issues once getting into poser. I can conform them an all but I get break threws or areas look very funky and not sure why..(other than me the modeler messed it up) Guess i need to learn to put morphs in the clothing at some point.

badmoon ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 9:54 AM

Sweetpegster, I am having the same problem with conforming.  It has nothing to do with the model and everything to do with joint parameters.

I'm just learning about this and it is a pain in the tush.

kierab ( ) posted Sun, 21 January 2007 at 10:16 AM · edited Sun, 21 January 2007 at 10:16 AM

sweetpegster - SL refers to an online space called second life. It's sort of a chat room universe on Poser steroids. :-) - I think that purchasive is a bit unfair. People don't think photographers are any less creative for not having built and stained every piece of furniture in their photos from scratch. I see Poser as a way extended version of photography for total control freaks. It IS creative if you get very deep into it in that you can just go with everything in the default but your art lacks warmth and depth until you get in there and start getting creative with how and where the lights are placed, how things are positioned and posed, how well your image tells a story, and 1001 other things. To date I have purchased most of the items in my images. I have a bunch that I have "tweaked" from a purchased item, using Wardrobe Wizard for example. I consider my works to be creative - because for me the creative component isn't in the object building so much as in what I do with them. So, am I fooling myself? Must I have created every single object and texture myself before my work is "creative" or is the art of the creativity in what comes after the virtual items exist????

Nice thread ThrommArcadia - and hmm, now that I think about it, I'd like to know how you came about that name :)

David, that's a great likeness, just need to a different pair of glasses I think, though I can't see yours as clearly, and definitely postwork that beard to make it thicker.  One of the first things I did was to Poserize myself on good ol' Posette!

Speaking of Carrara, I'd like to get the basic version to try it out as an alternative to rendering in Poser.   I'm mostly interested in what it offers in terms of lighting and the speed of the rendering engine.   I don't want to wait 6-8 hours for a 700x700 image.   I really like what populus does with lighting in Carrara.

I got Bryce 6 and Vue Easel 6 but don't use either very much.

Still working on the face texture.  The figure is momdot's MorphMan for the P4NudeMan (Dork), and the basetexture is Arduino's P4 Claudio's.  I using two rather lo-res photos of myself that I took with a bit of difficulty using my computer's 'credit card' web cam.  I 'm cheating a bit with the beard, simply  morphing the chin to my beard's shape.  Unfortunately Kozaboro doesn't do beards, so I'm not sure from where I could add a seperate beard anyway. It's an interesting challande anyway. David P. Hoadley

Pah. I consider Duchamp's objet trouvs as creative art too. However, there are tons of pictures in the galleries with huge lists of "hair A by B, light C by D, pose E by F, ..." that make me want to ask the artist: "Now what part of that is from you?"

I object to being a 'Boomer', though I 'fit the profile' (anyone born in 1957) up to 1964 is a Boomer, anyone on 1946 is a boomer..people born in 1946 were having babies in 1964, so are both generations a boomer? I did manage to get my bald dome on top of a pillow.  Unfortunately the "lady of the evening" disappeared much earlier in the night, so the debauchery was not to be.

I'm glad that my friends live relatively close as I walked home from the house party at about 5 or 6 am.  I sure could have used a wheelbarrow ride!

@ Angel - hilarious!  Don't worry, we notice you. ;)

@ dphoadley - Great work on your virtual you!  I have to update mine a bit, I think.  I've always been a tad annoyed that my beard doesn't show up.

@ Lucifer_The_Dark - Yeah the glasses of water thing really does help, I must admit.  My problem, and it happens at least once a year, is that sometimes I just loose track.  Too much happening and suddenly I'm the most gracious host in the world (whether it my house or not) and I'm always making sure everyone's glass is full, including mine.

Yeah, when I go down, I take others with me! lol.

I've since spoken with a handful of people who were at the little improptu party and apparently I was not the only one feeling it the next day!  Funny thing, the women at the gathering were all the ones in control, though, not one of them had a hangover!  Heck, two of them had sobered up hours before the night was over.  They said they just had fun watching the drunk guys.
