Subject: V5I vs V6I render comparison?

RyanSpaulding ( ) posted Tue, 13 February 2007 at 9:28 AM · edited Tue, 03 December 2024 at 10:19 AM

hey guys,

I work in the arch viz field and was curious if anyone has done a side-by-side render of something in V5I and V6I with it's spectral atmospheres.  I want to see how each look because I'm not totally sold on Vue for arch viz....but maybe it's improved?

Plenty of Vue 6 renders here in the gallery, Ryan.

That's the thing though, I don't see much Arch Viz and what i do see has about no visual improvement in spectral atmospheres over the look of a GI V5I render.  I see nothing.  No added realism.  No better look.  Fancy clouds, but that's borderline worthless in Arch Viz.

And that's why I'm asking for a side-by-side...if someone did one.

Maybe wait for the Vue 6 Demo and then compare  to see what the difference is if you don't want to buy now. :)

Guess if you need arch viz peoiple to answer your question, you better find some specialist site to ask. Here you'll find regular Vue artists, part of them are occasionnal professional users like me.

Hi Ryan. I started to use V6I for my furniture model product pictures for C3D, and then did make some comparisons with V5I, since I still need to make most of my products in V5 file format. After making a few comparisons, I doubt I'll ever go back to V5I. Unfortunately, I didn't keep any of those experiments (didn't think anyone else cared), but for architectural purposes (in my case, furniture and special rooms to take advantage of radiosity lighting) V6 has it all over V5. IMHO, only.

Ryan,

Vue 6 has a number of nice features outside the Spectral Atmosphere you also may be interested in. They have better and more kinds of anti-aliasing, so it's much easier to render scenes without the 'noise' artifacts we've been accustomed to in Vue 5. Also, the post processing now has a number of super effects. Included among them are my 3 favorites;

  1. Natural Film response;
  2. Automatic Exposure (with settings)
    and my favorite:
  3. Fully adjustable Lens Glare which gives a Specular Bloom effect to the rendering, much like a real camera.

All those added to a Terragen like rendering engine (Spectral Atmosphere) and you have a much easier time of creating photoreal images.

best,
Chipp
