Subject: Is my video card not up to snuff?

Barrelhaus ( ) posted Tue, 06 March 2007 at 8:36 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 11:57 PM

I seem to remember reading some where that ati radeon video cards are not very good with 3d graphics. I'm new to 3d, but not graphics. I work on huge photoshop quark indesign etc files and my computer never skips a beat.
I have p4, 3gigs ram, and an ati radeon vid card (dont recall the specs f=right now, but it was top of the line about a year ago (ancient technology)
I'm crashing all over the place with Vue6, and am wondering if changing my vid card will make a difference. Im not doing anything intensive, just learning my way around the interface at this point.
I seem to remember reading that the nvidia was a better choice for 3d graphics. Is it so?

PS. can I import bvh (motion files) to an imported static poser figure rather than running poser concurrently for animations, Poser is less than stable on my pooter as well.

Try updating the video driver.

Vue6 is a tad screwy at moment so that's probably it ;)
you don't need an uber card, though I'd recoomend one with 128+ RAM cause it helps with the OPEN GL stuff, if you've got tons of polys, meshes etc
most recent cards have at least 128 video RAM if not more.

You could try using the OpenGl Software setting rather than the OpenGl Hardware.

Check out other threads here and any other Vue forums, there are a lot of peeps having crashes with the final release version [and some that aren't!]
e-on have admitted to a number of faults that they say should be addressed in th upcoming fix [allegedly this week].

I have an ATI and have had no video board realated problems in Vue6.
What makes Vue crash for you in the interface? You have problems with Poser too, apparently, so I would also suggest you check if you have the latest drivers for your card.
Your card specs would indeed be useful.
