Subject: What about the book "Practical Poser 6"?

vincebagna ( ) posted Sun, 11 March 2007 at 6:30 AM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 7:09 PM

Hi folks!

I am wondering to buy this book, and i just wanted advices about its content before.
Is it only a new version of the guide which came with Poser, or is it more than that?
I mean, tips and tricks that could be useful to learn or something like that??

And i didn't find any french version. Not a big deal to have it in english, but my birth language would be better ;)

**The following text was "stolen"  from Amazon.com ************************************************************* Book Description** Practical Poser 6 teaches Poser artists the tasks you want, and need, to learn so that you can get up to speed quickly and achieve your best results. Whether you're a hobbyist or professional, you'll learn how to create Poser scenes, how to add realism to your Poser characters, and even how to make your own Poser clothing.

You'll learn practical, real-world tasks that will help you reach your goals and, most important, you'll have fun learning. In the first part of the book you'll get a quick overview and review of what you need to know in the Pose Room, starting with the Poser 6 interface and progressing, in a logical manner, to building scenes.

You'll also learn how to use lights and cameras, and how to create and save your own light and camera sets to the Poser library. From there, you'll learn a plethora of practical skills including how to:

  • Work in the other Poser rooms
  • Prepare photographs in the Face Room and create and save custom faces
  • Use the Hair Room to add hair to Poser clothing or props, and how to pick up hair colors from underlying textures
  • Work with various types of Poser clothing, and learn the differences between conforming clothing and dynamic clothing
  • Decipher materials in the advanced Material Room view
  • Create and customize Poser clothing
  • Use magnets to create morphs in Poser
  • Export and import morphs to and from an external morphing program
  • Model a simple piece of clothing, create UV maps for common clothing articles (shirts, skirts, and pants), assign materials in clothing, and group them correctly
  • Save different types of Poser content into the Poser libraries so that they work properly
  • Enhance your Poser renders so that they look their best by learning how the render engine works

Practical Poser 6 (and 7, now) are not written by e-frontier, and cover lots of ground not covered in the manual. When Denise was writing the first book, she came online here and at other forums (fora?) to find out what people would like to see in such a book.

Poser (x) revealed, on the other hand, is e frontier's official side book to go with their software, and covers a lot of the same ground as the manual. The difference is that Secrets 6 wasn't based on a manual from two versions ago, and so is actually mostly pertinent (from what I've heard).

One of the main perks off the included DVD is, if you don't have him already, Apollo Max...cause you can't get him any where any more.

I loved the P6 book, it made clear a lot of things that I wasn't understanding from the manual or tutorials I had read online.  If you're looking for "a class in a book" type reading, this is the one I would recommend the highest of the books available.

Not true in the next day or so. Anton has updated Apollo with LOTS of new extras, and will be making him available FOR FREE!!!  There are threads about it at Rendo, DAZ, and the HUGE thread on the Apollo Max forum on Content Paradise.

I'm ROYALLY psyched about this, because I love Apollo!

Ah, true, I should have added that, I meant the original Apollo.  We are less then 24 hours away from Apollo 2007!!! (actually, we were less then 24 hours last night, so crossing my fingers and toes...Anton should be setting up to release any time now)

You know what would be a big poo poo fest?  DAZ turning around and releasing M4 for $1.99 for their March Madness sale.  hehehe (just kidding)  Hell, even if they did, it would give me 2 new men to play with!!:woot:

@vincebagn

You can also add to Practical Poser 6, Practical Poser 7, if your using p7 that is, both great books, in three words 'a must have'.
