Subject: Grey ground plane (maybe) showing through prop floor...

ghelmer ( ) posted Sun, 11 March 2007 at 11:54 PM · edited Sat, 17 August 2024 at 4:34 AM

Occasionally when importing a P6 scene (room prop and character) into Carrara 5.1 Pro I get what appears to be the Carrara ground plane over parts of the poser prop floor/ground area!!!  I've tried raising the entire poser props & characters above the carrara ground plane, or angling the poser props and still the gray (sometimes white) area still pokes through!!!  I'd post pics but I never saved any so I know I'm not providing much to go on to diagnose!!  SORRY!!

Any ideas would be totally appreciated!!

Thanks!

Gerard

It might be the Poser ground plane. Poser 6 has a ground plane, and if you bring in the Poser file, the ground will come with.

Never Give Up!

I always delete the Poser ground plane once in Carrara...  forgot to mention that!!  But thanks!!  I just wish I could get this figured out!!!

I haven't imported a Poser scene into Carrara (yet), but one thing that occurs to me to try is to go to the INSTANCES tab, select SCENE, and up to the EFFECTS tab, then check the Atmosphere setting. If it is the Realistic Sky setting make sure the ENABLE GROUND toggle box is unchecked. HTH, Dan

The Realistic Sky comes with a Ground Plane as the default setting.

Thanks danamo!!  But alas it did not solve the problem...  I unchecked enable ground, deleted poser ground did everything listed above and still have the weird patch...  rendering again, different render settings and lights and am hoping maybe that'll do it.....

Can you post a screen shot of the scene? It would help to see what you are talking about. ;) Here is a possible fix though: In some camera positions, sometimes Carrara has issues with things at z=0. Check "Full Raytracing" in the Render Room and see if that fixes the problem. Mark

Thanks Mark!!  I'll give that a try when I get home from work!!!  Also I'll post a pic of it!!

Thanks all!!

First, make sure "Full Raytracing" is checked in your render settings.
Secondly, if you're using a basic sky, lower the ground altitude by an inch or two.

Hmmm...  Turned up the light intensity a smidgen, re-rendered...  then did way too much postwork and I think I ruined it...  both postworked and non postworked just didn't turn out like I planned!!

BUT, I really want to thank you guys for the help and advice!!!

Thanks!!!
