Remove Vista, install XP and your new computer is able to use all the power for your application (Poser) and not to play with hisself.

XP formats your harddisk (if you allow it) and Vista is gone.

you would need to spend money on a copy of windows XP , and install it over the top of vista. Then reload every application on your new pc.

some people say poser runs fine on vista , some say it wont run at all.

I have heard people say that if you turn off one of the vista security features it runs really well, but the security is one of Vistas selling points .

I have alot saved from the other puter....matter of fact am going to dump vista tomorrow...there is nothing on this new puter to save....and take my other puter over to a friend's house who has a friend...that works on puters for a living and let him fix it.....should have thought of that first before buying a new one I really didn't need......was just so angry with Best Buy....ugh...they were awful...tried to charge me about 400.00 to put a new hard drive and back up some data...live and learn...thanks to all...huggers, Carol

You should NEVER install XP over VISTA .. thats asking for a non working system ... i dunno who made you say that but its .. well lets say this nice .. not a smart thing to advice..

Install XP on a clean Formatted Harddisk ..
And a slow/FULL  format and NOT a Quick format..
Better evene to remove the parttition and re partion the drive..
BTW this is not a Low level user thing to do .. !!!

AND remember that usualy the VISTA that came with the system lives in a partition of the drive and the CD/DVD that came with is usualy contains the backup system..
Removing the partition or a full format can be a isue with the warranty of your new computer.

Vista would not let me put xp over it.....I ended up taking the puter back....it was also freezing up....went to Frys and bought one with XP on it....and bought an extra gig of memory :-)
Took the old one to a friend and they are going to fix it.....I don't want to mess with VISTA..till it has been around a loooooooooooooong time....thank you everyone...huggers, Carol

Vista doesn't have anything to say when you start XP setup since Vista isn't loaded yet. Did you by any chance inserted XP install disc and then ran it from within Vista? If so it's logical it wouldn't let you. XP setup can't downgrade newer OS, same as Windows 98 can't downgrade XP or 2000. Only format and clean install.

I just tried Poser 6 with Vista and it works normally, as does Poser 7.

Vista would not let me load Poser 6.....even in compatability.....I tried at least 5 or 6 times to load it....Vista was already loaded onto the puter...Vista also froze up several times for no reason.. and I had called tech support at Acer and they were the ones who told me also to load it over Vista....anyway took it back....no problems now....I have a new puter with XP on it (a better one than I previously purchased) :-)

You have to turn off UAC to run Poser 6 on Vista in most cases. UAC is the permissions to install and change Software. Poser 6 changes stuff in the Program Folder. Poser 7 has the Preferences in the User Setting Folder.

The version of Vista may be a difference. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.
