Greetings and salutations. In case you're wondering how to create fire in Bryce 5, 5.5 or 6, the answer is: easy.

You have two choices:

  • Use Clay's fire. To my knowledge no one has ever done something better with procedurals, volumetrics or whatever. It's not terribly realistic for some scenes, but it is a good start.

  • Or you use a 2D pic of fire. Search for fire on Google images, get a rather large one, photoshop out whatever ya else there is in the scene, plaster it on a 2D shape and voila!

  • Or a combo of the two

In the attached image the fire is actually a supernova from NASA for the explosion mapped on a sphere. So go nuts, it's just a matter of finding the right image off Google or taking your own.

Don't forget the environment effects upon the fire. Such as the vacuum of space might not generate a lot of flame (O2 or other gas to feed a flame), but there might be more sparks. Low gravity or 0G might render a spherical explosion such as a "sun burst" nuclear explosion.

I've had *some* luck with using photographs of fire to make actual volumetric Bryce materials. Trick is, you always have to wrap the texture Random, or it looks strange. Then its just a roll of the dice on how the result will look. Some are cool, yet a lot just don't work quite well, it all depends on the photo.

This is a testrender of some fireflames i  made in skylab. They where rendered and then reimported on a 2d plan. The flames looks realy nice in the original render. Skylab it's a good thing   :)

What about menno fire, by, uhhh , menno (see attached link), don't know if it's still available or not, but it was used in the linked image and was very easy to work with. Just a thought.

I use one that was in a freebie section somewheres... it's listed as primordial fire. Comes in a set of like five or six.
